Title: Cruise Control possible for my 1999 Miggy?
Post by: perfferle on 03 June 2008, 23:18:30
Hi, anyone know if cruise control is 'easilly' possible for my miggy? I read somewhere that i may only need a stalk or something.
Thanks,

2.5 petrol V6?
You need the actuator, cable & pedal(s) switch(es) too. It's the 2.6 BMW lump, and all the drive-by-wire later cars that can be upgraded with just the stalk.

You can drive more ecconomically with your right foot than cruise can. Cruise will just maintain a speed no matter what the throttle position is, & get you back you  speed as quickly as it can.

i would have to disagree on that matey i get a lot better mpg when cruising on motorway dual carrigeways with cruise on  ::)

my best use is for keeping my speed down on motorways, can get carried away and not notice I am speeding.

So just set cruise at chosen speed and drive along quite happily

cruise DOES make for worse mpg.

Eg, driving on the motorway, you reach a hill, your foot stays in the sample place, you shave maybe 5mph of speed up the hill.

Where cruise will increase the throttle to keep you at the same speed up the hill.

Depends how smooth you are with the right foot, a smooth driver can easily do better mpg without cruise

I find cruise to have slightly worse mpg than me driving.  Still use it all the time though!

Nah, fit it, its very easy. Fiddly big is brake switch (and clutch switch if you have one).

Just be aware that 2nd hand stalks tend not to last too long (tends to bring full beam on unexpectedly), so be prepared at some point to pay £30 to dealer for a new shiny one.

The BMW lump is 2.5, and just needs a (different from other Omega) stalk. Thats it. No programming, no nothing :y

As a sidenote, the ECU on the tractor engines actually stores a fault code if the cruise stalk is not there.  So all you tractor owners with a CD or lower spec will have a 96 stored ;D

Thanks guys, sounds like a plan. From what I have learnt C/Control can be less economical on fuel if driving on hilly terrain. My reason / interest is that i regularally find myself speeding and 'its not my fault ::)' so i am thinking that cruise is the safe way for me to go. :y

Yeah totally agree with that...its probably the one thing i miss the most from my Elite.

Not needed on my 2.2 admittedly but would be nice if it had one....oh and an auto box  ;D
