How can i get this annoying red light to go off on the dashboard? Vx has advised that the 'seatbelt/airbag computer' is fubar and i need to replace for about£350.00
Frankly i would just as soon have this lamp 'convenientely' switch off...

It might just be telling the truth and a problem exsists with either the airbag or seatbelt system ??? Both of which are IMHO pretty damned important.
Have you had a "tech 2" done to actually confirm any faults ?? VX may just be wrong .... again
I'm not sure how your insurance company would be if they found you were driving with a faulty protection system .. :(

Why would they give a ****? If you're dead you're less likely to be making a claim! ;) Air bag light on isn't an MOT failure. :y

The insurance companies will find ANY excuse not to pay out. You have a significant bump, and the airbags don't deploy, that will be investigated. If its found that safety systems have been disabled, thats a good enough excuse not to pay >:(
To OP - did they give you a fault code, I've never seen an airbag ECU fail before. Sometimes they look like they've failed after deployment - are the airbags in tact?

If the light is on for .. shall we say a pre-tensioner fault ,... then in the event of an accident the belt might not do its job properly.
Are you willing to take that risk with your life ???

A bit over dramatic? It's only in recent years that we've had air bag systems with pre tensioners etc

And why mode accidents are less fatal!

....And why more accidents are less fatal!
Nothing to do with softer materials, lower dashes that break more easily, better cumple zones, side impact bars, switches etc that don't stick out ready to get you in an impact, then? I've never really been a fan of being surrounded by pyrotechnics.
It's been said that if you put a spike in the centre of the steering wheel that there's be far less accidents cos you'd be driving a lot more carefully! :y :y :y
That said, mine do work & I paid to have my lads airbag light put out.

Thanks for the feedback mates, My seatbelts are fine and the airbags are intact - no accidents :y.
You have made some good points and although i would agree safety first, providing the seatbelts work and the airbags are intact - I cannot really see the additional need to pay £350,00 for a computer function that seems over the top, just like the other over-design ideas of this car that were withdrawn on later models.
Vx have re-confirmed that the computer is fubar - they would not give me the code/s though :-/

The airbags and pretensioners will not operate in an accident with srs light on - the system is disabled. The car is designed for these features to be working to achieve its safety rating.

Oh...........
Now you tell me :y
Ok - will have to replace computer then.
Thanks,

Maybe a silly suggestion - but have you checked that the connectors are installed properly under the front seats? Tried moving your seats backwards and forwards? It happened to mine ages ago and was just a loose connection under the passenger seat.
Maybe unrelated - but worth a try.

A worthy thing to try - Peugeots suffer badly from that one :y
