I'm trying to fit a cdr500 single disc cd player to my 96 elite, the radio which is original fitted is a sc804 tape player/radio with a 8 digit MID on the dash. I've tryed reprogramming by switching the radio of, holding down 4&6 and switching the radio back on, but the display dosen't not sync with the new radio, I have sound and can listen to the radio but I've no idea what station I'm listening to, an idea's

One question comes to mind and that is, why would you do this?
Havent you got a 6 cd changer in the boot?

Yes, But I think the sc804 just looks very old and dated and I can never remember what cd's I have in it and what order they are in and I have a spare cdr500 lying around which looks much better

Have you unplugged the changer, I assume its linked to the head unit directly so maybe its causing the CDR500 some issues? Should be a straight swap...

I tryed that, still no joy. I thought it would be a straight swap but no, the display came on at the start to put the code in and when you switch the radio off the date returns to the part of the screen where the radio station is displayed and switch it on again and that part of the screen goes blank :-/

Presumably it worked fine with the sc804?
There are 3 brown and white wires to do with the MID display for the radio...maybe they need to be wired slightly different for the CDR500...

No problems with the sc804 works 100%

Maybe it needs a quick chat with a Tech2.
Good job you have a localish Tech2 owner that owes you a favour.

Try with ignition off also, and try by holding presets and turing ignition on - mess about various combinations etc, as it certainly SHOULD work !!

The fact that this bit is working confirms that all connections are correct, the display and radio are woring fine, just need to toggle the display on the stereo.

Jim - you may have to do multiple times, as each time it toggles through the options. from memory, i think the cdr500 toggles 8 digit, 8+2 digit (not sure what display thats for), 10 digit, then back to 8 digit etc.
tech2 can tell you the setting, but not change it...
