Had my ears syringed today & woe. Iv'e heard stuff i've never heard before, like the tick of my indicators & just how good my Mig sounds. The nurse got out a piece the size of a good sized garden pee from each ear. She asked me if my job was dusty (no), but i used to be a steel fabricator up to 5 1/2 years ago so it was.
I just couldn't believe what came out & i'm a very clean person, im always cleaning my ears.
If you've never had it done, i fully recommend it :y :y

Hearing is a bit like eyesight (and car performance) `gradually goes away with time....`not enough so you notice, but very obvious when it returns. :o
Do they actually use water to flush-out, or is it a suction device of some sort?

Seriously ..... you've probably been shoving the sh1te down your ears as you 'clean' them out. The nurse at work used to say that you should only ever use your opposite elbow. ;) :y

The nurse filled a little container with warm tap water which fed a liitle pulsating pump, then a tiny hollow stick/tube was inserted into my ear, it was actualy very pleasant.
She asked me to hold a cup next to my neck to catch whatever came out (15 yrs of welding, grinding). She recommends i go back every 2 yrs, as should everyone.

I had mine done last year and I hated the sensation >:(
I guess it's the same as being tickled, some hate it, some love it.

Interestingly I also had this problem until 30 ..But after problem is lost..

Waspy i got to have my left ear done as it get blocked up and i know how that felling is very good i am deaf in my right ear though was born deaf

I was only like it for a week & that was bad enough. I bet your looking forward to having it done :)

I had a blocked ear once - drove me mad - they shoved olive oil in there - even worse so I flicked the wax out with a pen lid

OOOH. Be carefull matey, your ear drums are VERY FRAGILE & you could do alot of damage, making you deaf.

I was carefull - it still works fine

A few years ago.....i had a blocked ear.......so went to docs......after 6 months of
upcock diagnosis and treatment......i gave up......and went to a private hospital.......In 4 weeks and £700 later they got my hearing up from 30% in that ear to 85%..........they said they could improve further but were concerned about how much it was costing me (no private health insurance) ......so i live with that now.....i think its improved on its own slightly.......but i do have tinitus in that ear now (high pitched wistling)......which the hospital said they could cure......but i live with it.

check out your nearest chinese herabl medicine shop, and get something called "ear candles"
as effective as syringe , but less painful, and less hassle.
but a bit scary.... they're essentially hollow candles, that act as a wick and chimney to draw wax deposits and crud out of the ear....
and they work...... I use them myself....

i used to get mine done every 2 years, i love it, and bullet size pieces drop out! yuk! i am a clean person too! the nurse told me never to use cotton buds becuase they push the wax in futher and compress it down.
I am due to go back soon, i am very deaf at the moment, I have tried otex, oilve oil etc, have started using NOWAX eardrops, its 100% natrual, you can see it working, but only thing is i randomly get bits of wax dropping out my ears! YUK.
tried ear candles, my cousin is a beautician she recommended them, but the didnt work for me, all the done was nearly burnt my ear and set my bed on fire (probably not the best place to do it) but for me they were a complete waste of money & expensive. I guess they work for some and not for others.

I've got an NHS digital aid in each ear. I'm supposed to have lost 40/50% of upper range hearing through using noisy machines in my business, which is a real PITA, and whilst the aids do help a lot they cause problems of their own.
I've currently got both ears inflamed, (through recent underwater swimming at Center Parcs I reckon) and intend to get my ears syringed when they return to normal to see if it helps.
Do you have to prepare with wax softeners first?

Apparently all ear canals are different. When I had my last set fitted the technician told me that one of their female staff had ears down which you could see her ear drums without any instrument. :-?

yes, my doctor used to tell me to do it with warm olive oil day and night, lie on one side, drop a bit in, read a book or something for a while whilst lying on that side, then do the same for the otherside, it loosens the wax.
I lost my olive oil dropper so now use NOWAX, it comes with a dropper bottle, and is very very good and uses natrual ingridients!

I need to get it done just now, I use earplugs at work, and very slowly these have pushed wax down into my ears.
My oc health nurse has been hassling me to get it done for about a year now.
Got an appointment on the 25th to get it done, but my doctor told me to use olive oil for at least 10 days before hand.

yes i used to have mine done by the nurse every 2 years. now i just do it myself. i find a nitting needle and carb cleaner works best :D

Thanks for the info. i was contemplating using my pressure washer from 20ft.
