I have an intermittent problem with the brake lights on my 2.6 Elite. Occasionally the display come up with "Brake Light Check". When this occurs I find that the brake lights work perfectly, but when I turn on the lights the high level brake light also illuminates (although not as brightly as when the brake pedal is depressed). After a day or so the problem corrects itself. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this?
Many thanks,
Richard. :(

As a first port of call, check the 0V connection in the boot, its on the passenger side behind the plastic slam panel trim.

Found Ring bulbs work ok for me - cheaper than VX. Halfords bulbs can cause this problem.

NB If you look in a Haynes manual for an Astra G you'll find the wirng diagrams are (useless but) laid out schematically(sp?) and you'll also find these (http://www.codian.com/safety/earth_symbol.gif) everywhere in the book! ::)
If you have a 'Positive Earth' car from the 50s & 60s obviously the postive terminal of the battery is connected to the chassis so ...... what would you call the negative terminal? :-/ :-/ -12volts ?? :-/ :y

Went off to the local VX dealer this afternoon and bought a couple of new bulbs. Everything is now OK. I haven't checked the 0v connection as of yet but hopefully will get a chance tomorrow. Although all is now fine, I can't say for certain that the problem is cured as it's one of those annoying intermittent faults.
I guess only time will tell.
Thanks again for all the replies,
Richard. :)
