Title: 2.0 16v will not paper clip.
Post by: feeutfo on 07 October 2008, 11:16:17
as above, will not have it. Its a 2.0  99 face lift cdx with the car symbol bottom left of the dash, as face lifts do. Adding the paper clip after the ignition is on wil turn off the engine symbol light, or sometimes it will flicker then go out, but thats it. I have yet to see the car symbol alight and yes , the bulb does work, as i swapped it with a known good one. The port works with a snap on diagnostic as we have read the codes for a buggered abs ecu. Any ideas. Cheers, Chris.

wether it has any faults stored or not you'll still get the 12 fault code to say that it's started and also to say it's finished.

have you tried inserting the paperclip before turning the ignition on?

Yep, it was what i tried first. No good, not a peep from car symbol.  Then tried Ignition on first and the engine symbol goes out when the paperclip is inserted, so it knows the paper clip is there. Just no flashing.

2.0l after about 96 is 4 digit codes, similar to obdii, so no flashes if no stored codes.  only early 2.0 with 2/3 digit codes flash the 12

I think The boy is saying if no codes are stored then no flashing, if so all is well...
Cheers.

Should the car/spanner symbol light up with the other dash warning lights when ignition is turned on? We have yet to see that light illuminated under any circumstances...
Owner needs the car at the mo so just arming myself for when if brings it round.

Also where is the abs ecu on this model? ta

Only EML (engine pic)

ABS ecu bolted to abs unit, under pas res, same as yours :)
