Title: Powerpoint Help
Post by: Golfbuddy on 10 February 2008, 21:23:04
I have to do a presentation tomorrow to our board of directors. I have decided to do it in PowerPoint, I know its been done to death but there you are. I have done all the slides and I'm pretty confident of my delivery.

I have a bit of a problem. After the last line of text flies in to screen, all the text immediately disappears with the exception of the slide title.

What do I have to do stop this happening? I've been playing with it for ages and can't get it to work as I want it.

I wouldn't mind but I'm only trying to persuade them to spend in excess of £2million on plant and I think they'd appreciate it if I got the rather presentation right.  ;D

Don't use animations. ;D

how is the timing set, is there a timing setting on that text object? sounds like it set to 1 second or something.

Remember, no more than 3 lines of text per powerpoint slide. Powerpoint text is an aide, viewers should not be expected to read sentenses on a slide, you just need 'key' words to make your point.

Not sure I can. It's all fairly sensitive stuff (commercially) so not sure I could post anything on a public forum.  :(

If anyone thinks they could help, I could send it as a PM?

Sorry about this Budgie but the only Power Point I know about is the one I fitted into the Garage yesterday so I can plug the lawn mower into it ;D

Could you not stick up a copy with random text in there ?

I think that's the problem. I can't work out how to set the slide to end on the start of the next slide if you see what I mean.

Some of the slides will generate at least 15 mins of discussion. If I set the timing to say 20 minutes, will it still change when I click the clicker?

You have a remote clicker? then avoid setting your slides to time limits.

Awful way.... you never know what will happen, you may plan 10 mins for this slide, 20 for that. But you could end up doing 30 on a 10.... keep it to a manual method, more control.

standby for photos...

Agreed, how do I get rid of the timings? I don't want to have any restriction on the amount of time a slide will appear.  :y

to make things easier, group your objects, hold down cntrl, and select both text boxes for title and main text, right click > Objects > Group

Will force all to do the same action, again right click and make sure no animations / timings are set.

To make sure its setup manually:

Right here goes this is what you need to do but please note im on windows 2007 so there are some small differences and hopefully this is not one of them.
1.your need to select the custum aniamation bit.
2. select the text that you want to stop fadeing away.
3.you can ether at this point remove the animation or change the start point to on mouse click.

4. select play and it will show you what this particular slide is doing.

as for the slide changing from one to another you need to slect the advance slide and tell it to do it on mouse click.

sorry if this is vage but i dont know whether we are working of the same version of program if we are let me know and i can go into more detail for you maybe logg on to msn and talk you through it if it helps.

Thanks guys and gals. Nickbat is holding my virtual hand on MSN as we speak. I'll keep you posted.

I'm so glad I'm doing this at 10.00 on the night before the presentation, it's just like a school night over 25 years ago.  ;D ;D ;D

It's funny, when you manage a project like this, reps want to take you out to dinner and fly you all over the world to look at their machinery in action. It makes me wonder if they sell anything in this country.  :o

OK everyone. Huge thanks for your input here. Nickbat walked me through on MSN and we had some success.

I'm still not quite sure what's changed but my animations now appear when they should and they stay until I don't want them anymore.

Let's hope they love my ideas now.  :y

All went very well thanks John.  :y

None of my proposals were rejected and a couple of times I distinctly heard the Finance Director say, 'I quite agree'. Sounds like I might be making a few fact finding visits to Northern Italy in the next few months.  8-)
