Hi, had to change the battery and the radio stopped working. There was no fuse present in the fuse box but have read it may be in the stereo itself. It's a CDR 2005 - have removed the four allum nuts but it won't budge, what else do I have to do? Thanks.

You need a pair of radio keys to remove it. Pop down to Halfrauds, they sell them :y

Dont buy them pointless.
Go check your house for a wire hanger, poke into each hole and pull out stereo.
I done it yesterday on my Omega and done it many times on other cars.
You also need a 2mm allen key to remove the 4 little screws on the headunit as well

For £4.29 (http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_176657_langId_-1_categoryId_165626) I'd rather have the proper tool than snap half of the face off trying to yank it out by the tape slot.

The facias tend to break off the facelift head units a bit too easily. Based on that, I would use proper tools, less than a fiver.
Most radios can be popped out using 4 suitable nails, but then most radios have stronger facias.

I pulled mine out perfectly fine with a hanger, infact i didnt even use all 4 holes, just one at a time, pulled each corner...Out it came...Saying that, i have a decent Pioneer headunit, so am not bothered if i break a silly tape player lol.
Ive done loads of audio installations with many different headunits/standard tat, yet to go wrong with the good ol' hanger or screw driver.
However looking at what TheBoy said, fair play, ive got a mini-facelift :)

All sorted now, bought the proper tool and changed the fuse.
Next problem, two batteries have died on me. I guess it can only be the alternator. Is it a big job to replace?

Yeah, the facelifts have rather naff facias in that they are attached to unit with crap clips, some have small screws going into weak plastic areas - any attempt to pull (even gently) on the facia will cause it to part compnay with the main unit.
