Having bought a 2000 CDX this week I want to change the sound system as it stinks. Problem is "we don't really sell CD multi-changers any more Sir" is what I get. WMA MP3 CDR CDRW and god forbid Ipod units abound. Has it really come to this, over compressed sounds, pity they never did a vinyl player, possible jumping probs when going over traffic calming mountains and don't start me on that. Got about £300 to spend any thoughts Thanks ;D ;D ;D

What stereo is coming out?
What are you actually after? I understand the frustration of the bits you don`t want, but you have not actually said what you DO want. give a bit more info, and I`m sure that somebody (or myself) can assist.
Oh, and for the record (no pun intended!) yes, vinyl players were actually sold as an accessory for the VW Beetle back in the early 60`s - they are available, but well outside the budget you have indicated - last one I saw through the VW forums went for just over £2K

Do any of these head units that support MP3, WMA, etc also play FLAC?
Storage is getting so plentiful these days that you might as well have the quality and convenience.

Not come across that term in car Audio yet - can you elaborate?

Free Lossless Audio Codec.
Trouble is that the standards behind it are not to hot and hence not much kit supports it yet.....

nope, still none the wiser.
What sort of area of media (home hif fi etc) is playing around with this format then? Not come across it at all. What does this format bring to the party then?

PC's mainly and one or two personal media players....
Its a loss less compression technique (unlike MP3) and is not dissimilar to zipping a file (slightly more efficient as its targeted at audio)

Thanks for the explanation - I`ll kep an eye out for that one then

CCR 2006 coming out and ?? going in, the multi changer does not work and the sound quality as I said is not good. :'( I am probably looking for a double din radio/ CD player to drop in and also to use the steering wheel controls with it. I do accept that WMA MP3 etc is probably necessary to have, as for FLAC,yes Kevin is right it is a great codec and the sound compression is minimal hopefully in car systems will adopt it soon.
Hope that is a little clearer

Ok,
My suggestion would be this one
http://ice.dndservices.co.uk/shop_show_item.php/MID/15/IID/2774/PAGE/shop_company_index.php
you will also need a Facia convertor, about £15, and steering control adaptor, about £35
Anything left from the budget, change the speakers
:y

Thanks Dave I will look at that :D :D :D

Mmmm. I quite like the look of that. It looks like it would match the Omega interior nicely and not look too out of place. I don't suppose there are any pictures out there of an install in an Omega?

I`ve emailed a few customers to see if someone can send me back a picture of one fitted - but without fail, all who have purchased these have said the same thing though, looks much better in the flesh than it does in the pictures!

Hmm. Interesting.
Does the USB interface have to talk to a device that supports MTP - or could you attach a hard drive or flash device containing music files and would it then index them using the ID3 TAG info and present them in a user friendly manner?
Do you know if there are any limits on the size of such an external storage device?

Never tried plugging in anything other than an Ipod - may be worth trawling the Clarion website for clarification on that one, as there are various ID3 logos on the box.

It seems to suggest that it does. Supports FAT, FAT16 and FAT32, MAX directory depth of 8, 64 byte filename, 128K files max, 512 folders and 255 names per folder. :y
