Hi,my boot wont open via the button on dash.......
Ive tried it all ways,i.e engine off/on,key in/out etc just wont work
Any thoughts?
Cheers :y
-
key out push and hold for a few secs :y
-
hold?
both mine would release straight away on the dash button without having to hold it in
did it get changed on newer ones? (mine were 2000 and 2001)
-
Hold it? i'll try that.....
My Y plate was just a push too without holding it :-/
Anyway thanks i will try it...
I think its a stupid set up anyway, why would you push a button on the dash when you got a button on the key??
Surely the dash switch should work with the key in!?
I personally would like it to work with the key in and the engine running,i know its for safety and wont open when your tramping at 60 mph but surely they could make it work when its in Park or in conjuction with the handbrake :-/
I know its all safety but, whats the point of having a dash button if you have to take the key out for it to work??? surely you press the key fob....since its in your hand anyway? :-/ :D ;D

When you`ve done the mod you`ll notice that the interior light delay is slightly longer i.e It won`t go out immediately on inserting key :y
-
Nice one that would be better too...... :y
Only thing i noticed tit said later cars had that feature removed, mine is a Dec 2002....does that still come under the early set up?
-
Not sure on that one. Still, it don`t hurt to snip the wire and find out. No harm done :)

:o :o :-? ;D
It possible that the thinner wire wont be there if it is the later type?

On the later facelifts you do, it`s not a quick "one-touch" as the earlier facelifts were :y
-
A :yh...........ok will try it.
Cheers again mate
-
Earlier facelifts (up to about 2001), key had to be out, then press the button. Hillper's boot mod overcame this, but with annoying side effect that coutesy light always stayed on for 10s
Later facelifts, you had to press and hold release button for about 2s. No real need to modify this.
-
Is this something I could retro fit to my pre-facelift?

Doesn't need it - there is a handle to open it ;D

And a key ;D ;D :D

My key doesn't have a boot release button.
Sometimes it would be nice, like with the example of releasing it from inside while its pissing it down.
Also I might want to blank off the handle because it looks crap on mine. It doesn't have a badge and it's something of an eyesore when I look at the rear of the car.

What would you put in the handle's place?
You could try a facelift bootlid, but think you may hit hassle around the lights. You'd need to change central locking ECU, and its not a direct swap.
Its a lot of effort for no real gain....
-
Yeah I knonw it's a lot of effort. It just caught my eye and got me thinking.
If anything I would blank off the handle.
I thought about a facelift boot but I don't like the lights; they're too angled and I prefer the rounder style pre facelift lights on mine now.

Not sure whether that`ll fit :-/

WoooooooooHooooooooooo!! :D :D :y :y
All fixed!! needed the 2 sec hold!! :y
It works with 1. Engine on 2. Engine off 3. All off and key out!
Thats the good thing about the forum,i didn't know about the change on later cars,my other was a 2001 on a Y plate with the other set up!
Good old OOF!!
Thanks for your time and help folks! :y :y :y :y
