what would make my display go dim after changing the bulbs,in daylight you cant see it at all,in the dark you can, when i changed the bulbs and plugged it back in,it made a sound like a fuse blowing and thats when it went dim, like its on reduced power, any suggestions?

Take the instrument panel out and re-check bulbs then re-seat it firmly :)
-
knocked the brightness dial near the headlight switch? are the button lights dark aswell?
-
everything else in the dash is bright, just the display
-
blown one of the bulbs in display? or its not making great connection?
I'm assuming you have put proper bulbs in - those gay blue LEDs favoured by certain members, well, they will never work well in the display.
