Hi I've got a 1997 Elite.
I'm not keen on the standard stereo and I want to put my sony head unit in and my own speakers + a single sub in the boot. I understand the elite has a bose system and I'd like to basicly bypass it and use my own stuff.
How can I bypass the amp and have sound going from the headunit to the doors? Is it a case of ignoring the existint system and running new speaker cables to the doors or is there a better way using the car's wiring... am I making sense??? I know what I mean!! :D

use either the wireing already there to get to door speakers save running new wires to the door speakers
as for your sub run a new wire for that and tape the rest up out the way
hope that helps :y

Something you may not be aware of -
The BOSE system uses 2 Ohm speakers, and if you connect your Sony to them it will be damaged.
If ripping out the BOSE system, and I totally agree with what you are doing, you will need to remove all BOSE aspects of it, from the amps, wiring and unfortunately speakers as well.
Others may be able to advise on any time saving methods as far as wiring goes
;)

You say you understand it has a Bose system...are you sure it has?? What head unit do you have...only the Bose system only got introduced into the elites in late 97, October or so...

Ok, how can I tell for definate? I test fitted the sony head unit and it works but only on the radio!! When I switch to cd or bluetooth phone the sound goes dead unless I have the TA on implying there is an amp getting a signal from the electric aerial feed from the head unit.

Use the remote out, not the electric aerial out to connect to the amp.
They are different wires.

I 'd thought about that.
I don't want to use the cars built in amp I want to bypass it and use my own speakers, head unit and sub but I don't want to have to run new speaker cables to the doors cos that'll be a right pain. It's been mentioned on here that the existing speakers will damage my head unit so I want to replace the lot and I know its a minor annoyance but when the sony radio is on the date goes blank on the cars dash display because it's expecting a feed from the factory stereo, I don't want it blank all the time!!!

check out connects2 for a display adapter that will give you stearing wheel controls and display station track ect on mid display

What head unit did you have in it an SC804 or a CCR800?
