HI all
recently my abs and tc lights have started coming on with the speedo failing to work,on my omega 2.5 v6 cdx 1998. any one know of any fixes, dont want to spend too much on the car as you all know these cars arent valued much .would appreciate any help, many thanks

abs ecu mate sorry :(
post some numbers up might have one to help you out !
if you look on top of alloy block were brake pipes go in there
will be a part number and 2 letters :y
-
Yes, ABS ECU, 98 onwards are troublesome.
Awkward to get at to replace :(
There is a guide in the maint section
Cheapest - fix yourself, open the ecu up, and resolder the broken ribbon track.
Or get on from a breaker, such as Markey Mark above.
or send to BBA Remin (I think) who refurb
or spend £400 odd on a new one, and then some more to program it to your car! they need to know engine size and auto / manual to work properly.
-
thanks for that guys will come back to you if any further probs
-
Mine went last year and I sent it off to BBA Reman, Rochester in Kent I think, who charged £125+VAT to fix it. My local garage charged me £60 to remove and replace it when it came back.
As Jimbob says there are several ways to solve the prob, the adv with getting yours fixed is that you don't have to get it reprogrammed. :y
-
if you match them up no need for tech 2 :y
-
I'll agree that bba-reman do a great job, 5 day turn-around, courier it back, and give a warranty... but its about £130 ...
If you get one from a breaker, same makers year/model (same part number) it shouldn't need a Tech II ...
It's a damned fiddly job to change .. not hard .. fiddly .. most folks don't put ALL the bolts back in ......

I have a 2.5 auto one here from a facelift 2000 CDX...should be same part number though and shouldnt need reprogramming :y

Its a lot less fiddly and saves a lot of time if you simply (and very carefully) bend the whole unit up to an angle where you can easily access the 6 screws and replace the ECU...then carefully bend back into place...brake pipes have a fair degree of flexibility ::) :-X

Interesting idea ... and one I hope never to have to consider !!!
Methinks I would be exceedingly cautious, but I see your point... :y :y

Rather you than me Chris!!
If you go second hand you need to get one from same year and exact spec model to avoid Tech II reprogramming.
Part Nº is on bottom of ecu - obvious place to put it where you can't see it :P
I just removed top hose off block and managed to get ecu out - careful removing plastic plug its brittle.
Barsteward of a job to do - fiddly but doable. Most people (me included) don't put all six bolts back in - I managed 5 before getting t*tsed off - left out bottom right.
Good luck :y
-
You dont have to bend the pipes that far and they have a fair degree of flexibility and dont need to actually bend to get the access you need...obviously you only angle the unit up as far as is necessary to get access to the screws, about 45 degrees...and its all horses for courses, personally only done this on a scrapper so far for easy removal but seemed it would be fine regardless :y
-
many thanks for all the tips, i have a mechanic coming round the weekend to remove it for me

Also consider these guys for the re-furb.
They are also very good and cheaper than BBA reman.

No issues on the repair quality as all they are doing is fixing 2 broken bond wires!
-
Should add, I would have no issues with bending the brake pipes to the ABS modulator

No pictures then Mark? ::) ::)

What, like this.

Obviously its not easy to take a pic of such a small thing but, the blob of soder is where the fix is.
I have looked at 3 failed ones so far and they have all gone in the same place and the same way!

And exactly the same connection every time?

Too much power over the connection cause it do you think?

So ..... if I had problems with my ABS (quickley touches wood :-?) I'd be able to save myself £100/£150 with just a well placed blob of solder? :-/ :y :y

Cheeky barsteward! ;)I'd bring my jigsaw to make a cut out on your desk so that you can get close enough to it if you offered to fix mine ::) ::)
.... if needed (my fingers are still crossed!

So would incorrect jumpstarting cause that connection to burn out then?
'Cos if memory serves me right, when mine went last year, it was about the same time that my battery started to go and I had to use the jump leads a couple of times..... :-[

I doubt it.....over charging is a remote outsider.
And to fix, requries a microscope and very small sodlering iron tip.....and even thats not easy to do!

How does one go about getting the unit open ?
I have replaced mine recently (well, someone had to do it for me ::) ) and have the old unit - keen to get it fixed....my father is a dab hand with a soldering iron, just not sure how to open it up ?
