Title: Repairing/Replacing the diag socket on the Elite?
Post by: PaulW on 06 May 2009, 10:01:54
As TheBoy and MDTM both know (from using their Tech2's), the diagnostics socket on the Elite is a bit dodgy.  Just wondering if its an easy job to replace it or repair it at all?  I need to be able to do some techy2 work before long when the engine goes in, so want to get it fixed before I do!

Cheers :)

ive found what you are likely to be using to grip better than a tech2.

Still has issues Jimbob :(

Works fine in the Plodder tho, so it rules out a dodgy thingymabob!

Worth a squirt of switch cleaner before going any further?

i had problems with T2 and my fusebox as it had been paperclipped alot!

Markeymark is right it is part of the fusebox lots of hard work swapping that out!

i managed to push the pins in a little bit with a precision screwdriver havent tried it on a proper tech2 yet but it does work with a Snapon scanner :y

look at cleaning the pins, and bending them slightly. Once again, GM found the crappiest, shittiest, nastiest connector that 1p could buy...

Sorry TB, I have to disagree there.   :P

Vauxhall spend 2p on the connectors, as all of the 1p ones are reserved for use on Ferrari

Glad I`m now rid of that piece of crap  >:(

terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tired.....there standard amp pins, you can tell none of you lot work in volume electronic design.

You can get the pins out the housing Paul, then you cna squeeze them slightly to get better contact.

In which case, the housing is shite.  about 1 in 5 omegas i see has suspect connection on diag, normally cured by using leg to hold lead at an angle.

Not come across 1 bad vag, rover, ford, or nissan one yet ;)

Housing wont make any odds.

You been plugging tech2 into other makes then?

Vauxhall ought to take a look at some of the competition.

The Vx diagnostic socket is indeed very troublesome, and only IF you can get Tech2 to talk to it, there is not a lot that can be done or programmed when compared with other marques.

VAG-COM for instance (VW / Audi) is considerably easier to use and will allow you to manipulate anything that can be manipulated - you can even reset the odometer mileage and airbag crash data by simply plugging in - virtually anything plugged in electrically can be interrogated

Tech2 struggles to allow you to turn on the radio   ::)

Been plugging loads of other equipment into other cars.  One such device, a generic elm, has given me connection grief in obdii vauxhalls, but not in other obdii cars

....- you can even reset the odometer mileage  .....

'Cheapo Tech II' will allow you to 'correct' milage on an Astra G petrol 16 valve ...... apparently ::)  :y  :y  :y  :y
