Thread pruned, as absolutely no discussion about copyright infringements etc.

Pretty certain TM is about £30 a year.
Its usefulness depends on where you drive. And remember, its a guide, not a definative source.
I have it, and would not be without it, but most of the time I ignore what it says. Take going up to York last weekend - it was saying about numerous 30m delays, but a glance at map showed it would be better to sit in it.

Can I ask, since when is stating that TT software is all over the net been classified as "copyright infringement"?
Come to that, when did it become illegal to discuss copyright infringement?
I'd understand if links were being posted along with full blown tutorials, but clamping down on stating what people know already......jeez TB, not even Nu Labia are that anal.

Who ever said discussing copyright infringement was illegal?
Pruned, as the implication was it was encouraging looking for a way around paying people for their product/service.
Where to draw the line is always going to be controversial, but OOF's Admin Team have clearly stated our line in the Forum Guidelines posted at the top of every board.
Hope that clarifies :)

Yep... Most of us have inadvertently breached the rules... I personally think the Admin team have the right attitude in clamping down on any mention, that way they are free from any headaches and we can all enjoy OOF :y :y :y
TB, There's a bit in one of the posts containing Quoted text :y :y

In answer to the question... TM Subscription was £30 last year and I find it both incredibly useful and very annoying!
They usefulness, as TB states, does rely on your intelligence too. Sometimes it'll tell you of a delay but it's just not worth the hassle of going round it! I find the best usage is to combine TM, a BBC Radio station with TP turned on (normally playing CDs instead of the Radio anyway when on a long run), and a telephone service, like 401100, combined give the best picture of what is happening :y :y :y
It's intensely annoying because it only give information for the next 10 miles, it only covers the Major road network (with blue camera's at the side of the road) and sometimes a transmission will get stuck and you'll get reported delays which aren't there. I had this a few weeks ago for 5 days, at all times of day and night!
In summary, I would say if you travel enough miles you will probably benefit from it... I know I have and I'm planning to renew it when it runs out :y :y :y

The later types give a 'short range' (up to 10m/2jnc) and 'long range' (unclear how far

Before accusing people of being Anal, please be aware of a few things
1) Just because its on the net does not mean that it is legitamately in the public domain. The Intellectual property rights (especially in this instance) belong to a company who are very heavy handed when it comes to law enforcement.
2) As OOF is a registered and accountable organisation, it would be deemed liable to prosecution if it allowed its members to discuss any illegal activities within its open forum.
Bottom line - There are moderators here to ensure that the site runs smoothly, professionally and within the law, and as far as I am concerned, if a moderator ever says NO! - then that is not up for debate. They both run and own the forum that we are all enjoying, and we have to abide by their rules.
:P

Nothing illegal was being discussed, I simply stated that TT software is all over the net (and that was all that was said).
However if OOF are worried about the potential for being prosecuted, it may be prudent to edit the speed camera thread as at least one member stated that he would commit arson if he was ever caught by a camera (which could be deemed inciteful).
When you're done checking that one, the Kwik Fit thread contained numerous comments that could be deemed libellous so it might be an idea to pull that one as well ;)
I do understand what you are saying, but talking about what goes on and actually doing it (or helping someone to do it) are 2 completely different things.

Personal opinions and a guy being an arse are commonplace these days, and trying to bring a prosecution on that basis is nigh on impossible - however, the two companies in Question, Tom Tom and Trafficmaster are exceptionally keen to throw around their weight when it comes to pirated software, as that is the single largest source of income on both companies, and from what I can see the discussion was "pruned" as OOF could not openly allow its members to discuss seeking alternative ways around legitamate software.
Pleae don`t start firing back with other threads that need pulling, thats just silly. Whilst I may agree with some of your comments also, we unfortunatly live in a world that is full of litigation, and we are no longer allowed to speak as freely and openly as we often feel we should.
I like the way this forum is monitored and run, its a friendly, safe and informative way of helping each other and discussing problems and solutions that can be of significant benefit to fellow Oofers around the globe - So let leave the Moderators alone, not attack them and let them keep OOf running the way it is.
The moderators have spoken on this issue, and this issue alone. Their word is final, as its their forum, not ours.

Admin dont go to the lengths they do to insure oof survival for nothing, i am sure they have other things to do than monitor every post which they do for our benefit. If oof suffers legal proceedings they will presumably have to deal with it, not us, and presumably "we" could ultimately be closed down.
there is always the pm button for these more sensative issues.... :y
