Title: Omega Head Unit anybody ?
Post by: Dave DND on 12 May 2009, 23:06:14
So whos going to be the first to try to graft one of our new Astra head unit upgrades into the Omega?

this is the later shape with the vertical centre line, but apart from that, looks as though it would fit. Although CANBUS in operation, it will take a switched live from the ignition, and the Navigation can operate in as similar fasion to the portable ones, so no worries about connections with that either.

Its going to be a tight squeeze - but I cant think of any features it doesn`t have

fitted and working?

Im under the impression later head units rely too much on can bus to work with the omega? Whos only can communication is with the screen(cid in my case) but if it can be made to work, and none bose speakers can be fitted then interested, if it has tmc :-)

Astra, Negotiable -

But don`t ask me to do it in an Omega, I don`t even like fitting the standard head units due to my fat fingers and no room, so I`m afraid the answer is NO, before I`m asked about me fitting it.

What makes you say that?

The CANBUS is not a problem on this head unit. I connected a live and earth to it, sat it on my dash and have driven 100 miles using the GPS without a fault !!

If you have an Astra, its plug and play using the CANBUS, but the beauty of this unique head unit is that you can also use it without the CANBUS !!!

fair enough then. Looked at cd90 and dvd90 as an upgrade(or what ever they're called) can bus only afaik. Nfg on omega confirmed by TB.
Assumed your hu would be same, should have known you would know better really.

How will the nav communicate with cars sensors for road speed direction etc. I aint no expert as you probably guessed.

If your car has CANBUS, then the signals for speed pulse and reverse signals are taken from this. However, if a CANBUS signal is not present, then the unit will function in exactly the same way as something like a TomTom does, ie: power only and no need for anything else.

Some have a very limited form of CANBUS, but its so limited in what it can do, that I don`t suppose its really correct to call it CANBUS
