Is that passenger side or drivers side kick panel?? What colour plug is it if you can remember and what make is the display.

Im seriously thinking of buying it instead of a tomtom as I dont like the idea of carrying one round with me  ::)

TBH I wouldn't fit it over a TomTom unit! It's OK but....... It is a very old and dated system and even with the most recent map disk is a little limited in its functions. :-/ :-/ :-/

That said, I do use mine frequently but I also have Nav on my phone and TomTom :y :y :y

I have not seen the sat nav working in a car so bear with me here. But does the one screen do the satnav and the data or does it have a secondary screen to give you the fuel consumption and other data??

2 seperate screens. Carin screen goes next to the radio giving you basic instructions, your fuel consumption etc remains on the dash.

the sat nav screen sits at the side of the radio
noting to do with the screen that does your fuel comps radio etc etc

On a 1999 model car, you should have the plug behind passenger kick panel that makes it a easy fit.  Also TC switch should already be up above radio, with a small tray to left of radio.

Its a seperate screen on the Carin, unlike the Siemens system I have in th MV6 which uses the MID (or rather a replacement display called a CID). The Siemens system is undoubtedly the better system, but holds a hell of a price premium.

Both systems are capable, though the Carin is quite sluggish to enter a destination with the newer maps. Neither system, surprisingly, can do postcodes.

Anyone going to any meets that I attend is welcome to see both systems in action.

It is likely I will shortly be removing the Carin from the MV6, so that will be for sale in the not too distant future, suspect around £75 + postage.  I have a spare Siemens setup for prefacelift (NCDR1100, Colour Display, 4 disc CD Changer) sat gathering dust, probably looking around £300, but it will require minor rewiring (preferrably on Trafficmaster loom) - I have a conversion lead for CCR600/800

OK well I went ahead and purchased the Carin which should be with me in a few days but really annoyed as got pipped to the full bose system from the same buyer. Someone put a bid in during the last 30 seconds and it wouldnt let me place another bid  >:(

Wanted it to complete the system I already have in the MV6.  :'(

Will let you all know how I get on installing it, but will be on the lookout for a new know for the controller if anyone has a damaged unit  :y

ill be getting rid of my carin soon for something better ;) ;)

my carin is dying i think, its got a copied CD in it and is taking ages to do route guidance sometimes it just crashes and reboots its got ancient firmware on it aswell so i dunno if that would fix it

if i cant get hold of any firmware then ill chuck it in the bin! dont wanna sell it as im not pleased with its functionality

when i get my nice new system ill post you the carins joystick if you want it id have to swap you though as i need the little coin tray that went where the carin screen goes as i lost my'n :(
