Title: NCDR1500 niggles, Part 2, Telematics
Post by: TheBoy on 11 October 2008, 20:35:00
Telematics wired on to the audio of the prewiring kit.

Speech is quiet, have to turn it up a long way.

DTCs - one about aerial, and one B2369 Audio Line Output

Not got as far as doing measurements yet, but any ideas?

Not sure if it's relevant but I assume telematics uses the in built phone loom that is normally taped up above the glovebox?

On my setup (NCDR2013, Bose, Autoleads 06-109B with transformers for Bose, Nokia CK-7W and 6230i, E50 handsets in appropriate cradle) I find i'm always having to turn the head unit volume up.

Initially it took some setting up on both the handset volume and the Nokia volume button but I still have to alter the HU volume when the car is moving.

Never had these issues with my last car setup - CCR600 etc so can't help thinking it's either the Siemens 'line in' sensitivity or possibly something to do with the Bose.

My unconfirmed thoughts are that there are a few different options of microphone available, and they all have different sensitivities, depending on which head uit they were originally intended for

You're right on the mics - NCDx series needs a different mic to ccrt700 etc.

Its not the mic, its the audio level in car (purely from telematics) thats the issue.

Was that the same issue as the two wire and three wire mic`s, or was that another problem?

Are there any settings / cables etc that need to be altered for this - the SCV  (Speed Controlled Volume) wire at the rear of most Vx head units should subtlely alter the volume as you are going along, is it not supposed to link and work with Telematics then?

Using the mic from ccrt700 (or a Nokia mic - the telematics is made by Nokia) resulted in other party not hearing me.  I changed from the 2 wire ccrt700 mic to the 3 wire ncdc mic (though only 2 connections are used!), and that solved that problem.

My current telematics problem is I can't hear the conversation unless volume whacked right up.  And telematics throwing a fault code about audio out.

Think I am a step nearer to knowing whats gone wrong here.  Anyone know where audio isolator U29 is?

Rather than resolve, I think I'll live with it, as I need the bluetooth kit working as well.

Was thinking along lines of using a relay, activated by CK-7W's mute line, to switch between telematics and CK-7W

Dusting off this old thread as my setup suffers the same issues. The volume level output from the telematics is low / output from head unit cannot be increased to a 'comfortable level' though the system is useable.

The setup I have is:-

Facelift with prewiring
Prewiring connected to Autoleads 09-106B (built in matching transformers) connected to Nokia CK7W/CR66 & E50 handset - Works fine.
Telematics loom constructed from modded Trafficmaster loom
NCDC2015/CID/Telematics/BOSE

Did you ever investigate the issue any further TB?

Is it just the phone audio input to the head unit that is quiet?

Might have a potential solution  :-/

Phone Audio input for the Nokia kit is fine (and can be adjusted via the separate volume control, telematics is too low with no option to raise it.

Basically the Nokia is set correctly so that you don't need to adjust the head unit when a call is received / made.

Its the impedence that buggers up the telematics volume.  In the process of making up a little mixer circuit...

We use low level line boosters for driving amplifiers a little harder than they need to be, and as they are fully adjustable (rca in / rca out) I wondered if one of these in line with the telematics signal would boost it up to an acceptable level ?

Will get a picture and some details on my website in the next few hours so you can see what I am on about

Sounds good, it's only a single channel that's involved with the phone input to the HU.

This is what I was thinking of

http://www.dndservices.co.uk/pc9-460.html

one side could be used to adjust telematics, the other the phone as the gain controls are indepandant

Looks good. Not sure what level the Head Unit is expecting to be honest?

I know the Siemens units are easily damaged hence the matching transformers on the telemute lead.

Remember that you are only putting asmall voltage in, so the voltage out is also going to be a lot lower than the unit can give when used for its correct application
