Title: Retro fit Heated seats
Post by: amba on 31 May 2009, 09:17:28
Has anybody tried a retro fit of the Waeco heated seat kits on leather fronts seats?
As is the norm my drivers seat heated element is bust, but as I have the MV6 sports seats can see that a refurb would be very difficult and costly.
Looking on line you can get a retro kit which looks like it would do the job but unsure how to slide it under the base and back leather..any body tried this with or without success..as would like to be ready for this coming winter.

If your car already has heated seats then you're just replacing what you already should have. You just need another heated mat which you slip in under the leather cover. All your wiring is there, so you don't need a a full aftermarket heated seat kit.
It really isn't that difficult to get the covers off a seat, you've got an extra cushion on the base compared to my Elite, but I'm sure it must be very similar. Follow the guide in Haynes re removing the seats ..... airbags & pretensioners etc and they're bloody heavy!

Just looking at the prices of the replacement GM heater mats, and unsure if it is back or base that is dead thought a set for £50=00 might be a cheaper option.
Assuming the existing heater mats are glued to the underside of the leather will it not greatly reduce the heat with a new mat under the old one ?
