OK I know this is a basic one for you experts out there, but I am looking to change my 'problem' CDR2006 for an after-market single din unit. I have read in the forum in different locations that I will need a double din fascia to fill the gap left, but what else will I need?
Do I need adaptors to plug the steering controls into?
Are there any others I need?
And I also read that the power leads need to be changed over in the connection - or does an adaptor do this as well?
Will this all still drive the display unit in the dashboard?
Finally, do you think that our local Halfords will know how to do all this?
If this is already dealt with links to the relevant topics would be useful. Thanks.

You need a stalk and a steering wheel adaptor.
The display (line for cd track and cd number) will not work after puting an aftermarket unit

There are options out there that will do what you want.
I have 2 different pioneer units
both talk to steering controls, and the display
(also have bluetooth handsfree built in)
There are kenwood, alpine & sony offerings that do the same.
Halfords unlikely to be much use, plenty of good online places.
I have used these before
http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/
They do headunits and adaptors.
