I have a friend of mine that has a 52 Reg Omega 3.2 elite with a Siemens Radio, Model No NCDC 2015. He is not an oof member (why not indeed, you and I may ask!!!)
he is having problems with his radio coming on at all sorts of strange times and VX don't know what is wrong and have washed their hands on the problem (how great they are!! ::)) He e-mailed me the problem below: anyone got any clues
The problem is that during stand-by mode (i.e. whilst the car is parked with the ignition off) on the drive overnight and during the day, the radio system periodically activates and if the radio itself has been turned off, before turning off the ignition, when leaving the car the problem shows up by bleeping and bringing up the "Call emergency " screen for about 30 secs and then when no action is taken the system turns itself off again. Alternatively if the radio has not been turned off, prior to switching off the engine, the radio itself turns on and plays a short section of music for instance in the same way. Over a period of time therefore this runs down the battery and unless the car is used every other day or so, the battery eventually goes flat.
It would be great to find out what is causing this problem and if anyone has met it before and what the cure is :y

Have you tryed a good Known radio to see if its the radio or the car that has the prob?
-
I would also looking to see what else may have been previously fitted in the past, phone kit, sat nav, aftermarket alarm/immobiliser as all of these have the potential to "wake up" a stereo if faulty.
-
Does the car have a phone kit (especially bluetooth) wired in to the head unit or Trafficmaster fitted?
-
Poltergeist.- Definately.
-
As has been suggested, a floating mute line is what my initial thought is

If the car has had a phone kit removed, badly fitted, or is even faulty - a few problems can often occur.
The mute wire is the cable from the phone kit that will tell the stereo to reduce in volume whilst the call is being received, and then allow the stereo to go back to full volume at the end.
Careless installation or deinstallation of phone kits can often leave bare ended or un-terminated cables in the back of the dash, and if the mute wire inadvertantly touches something it shouldn`t, then it can switch on and "wake up" the stereo and various other electrical gadgets connected to any part of the car that is live with ignition on, and cause rapid battery drain.
Other badly fitted "toys" can have similar symptoms.

Thanks for that Dave, I understand now, I will pass on your wise thoughts. :y

Happy to help, but please be sure to post your findings here when you have tracked it down, as whatever you find will help others also
;)

Will do Dave, reporting back on solved problems is the core reason this forum exits (to help those that are less informed, like me!) :y

Funny thing happened the other day as all three of us have the same elite cars. We were all travelling separately to a golf club for a game and went in convoy on the motorway, 2 black and one dark green Miggy's travelling together, I swear other motorists thought we were all plod!! 8-)
