Hi all was wondering if you could recommend a reversing camera for my saloon Omega, I'm pretty good at reversing but find it handy for tight parking or hooking up a trailer etc.
-
Personally I cannot see the point of those in a car ::) ::) ::)
If you require any warning device at all then fit reversing sensors. ;) ;) ;)
-
If you have ever used one to attach a boat etc you would realise that they are essential as all you have to do is just lower the hitch onto the tow bar with no need to half kill yourself struggling with it.

used to have one in the truck, bloody thing was always knackerd.
get someone to watch you back mate its cheaper.

I have hitched many things to the back of my cars, and you just aim the rear of your car to where the hitch is.
The danger is if you are concentraing looking down at a screen you may well hit the side of your car against an obstruction ::) ::) ;) ;)

That's what I always think about reversing sensors, particularly those like the BMW's with a screen. You should be looking over your shoulder or in your mirrors, not looking forwards at a screen on the dash. :-? ;)

I use them on my other cars and they are fantastic - you can't reverse a vehicle so that the towbar is directly below the trailer hitch without one by yourself, and as they are a driver aid you still keep an eye on things around you, your'e more likely to need a bumper repair by trying to do it without one (experience talking); but thanks for your replys. :y

Whilst I agree with the other comments made, I also see the advantages in using a reversing camera that has been correctly installed and is pointing in the right direction.
What screen are you running? does it have both PAL and NTSC inputs? What camera are you after? B/W or Colour? How do you want to mount it? on a bracket, flush fitted into a panel or bumper, or a trick one that is custom mounted somewhere? let me know and I`ll see what I can recommend for you.
Beware the cheesy chinese imports found on certain auction sites, as they are often not waterproof and the image is seldom reversed from left to right!!

Thanks Dave for your advice but managed to get sorted. :y

I would find a reversing camera handy when hitching the caravan on the back. Would save jumping out to check that your in-line, and then jumping back in again.
Plus you can trust the camera, unlike my sistor the other weekend...
me 'Move your hands together as I get closer to the caravan' (I start moving back - im about 50cms away at this point)
her 'Wooooo Stop....' and she claps her hands together! :-?
me 'Im no where near the van yet, what you doing?'
her 'oh ok, keep going...' (she stands there with her hands in the air bringing them together...)
next thing... BANG! :o
Best bit, she's still stood there with about 6" gap between her hands ::) :-X
Luckly I had got the aim dead on, so the towbar just hit the hitch, so no damage! :D (plus was only moving VERY slowly)

Know where you're coming from i'm also intending to attach a wireless camera to the back of my caravan - very handy for parking it up and also you can see if there are any kiddies about that have run behind it when on the caravan sites.
-
ill come and marshel it for you as i can marshel aircraft and helicopters so im sure i could do a caravan or a boat lol
sory about the spelling
