Title: tunnie is....
Post by: tunnie on 14 February 2008, 20:47:57
loving the 3.0 Estate!! Have owned a 2.2 for 4 years i defend them to the ends of the earth, but the 3.0 is just in another league!

I have driven several 2.5's but the 3.0's are so much faster!

Driving back again tonight with the HID's in the dark is sooo much easier, it has so much pull after 65, my 2.2 can get to 70 ok, after that nothing left... the 3.0 just keeps pulling and pulling, the multi-rams are not even working yet!

The Elite seats seam so much more comfy, I can adjust them to lean back a lot more in the seat, and they give so much more thigh support.

My 2.2' CD's seats, have a lever to tilt the seat back, but the Elite leccy ones seam to go a lot futher?

Result one happy tunnie.

2.2 future is looking very bleak!  :o

Hopefully will get those multi-rams sorted this weekend.

Other niggles? Getting very weak heat though the dash, and with this recent cold snap has meant bloody cold driving!! V6 roar helps though  :)

If i drive it fairly hard i get more heat but its still very week!  :'(

Shame I won't be a Telford .. you could have had a go in a 3.2 .. I would not have believed the difference.. After the 2.5 its a truly amazing machine ...

217 BHP v 167 BHP .. those extra 50 Horses make a HUGE difference.

and No ... I haven't stopped smiling yet ...  :)

Guess I must be spoiled then with my last 3 cars being near or over 300 BHP, as one of my gripes with the Omega is that it feels underpowered -- and that's in 3.0 manual form. It's got a decent chassis, but at 1700Kg it could do with a few extra horses.

Oh and if you like the Elite seats you should try some MV6 ones... much better IMO, to the point where I'd take cloth manual-adjust MV6 seats over electric + memory Elite leather seats every time.

I have sat in MV6's but they still don't tilt back as far, think 210bhp is plently enough for my skill level! Had it sideways already  ::)

After my first drive in an MV6 those were the seats I was having. So much more support when "pressing on". 8-)

I'd say 210 BHP is far too much if you drive with the seat back horizontal  ;D

Oh and it's designed to go sideways ;) Just remember to switch the damn TC off!

Same here Tunnie, I found that the heat came in fits and starts. There was no heat at all, but it was much improved when I flushed the matrix in both directions, so I would recommend doing that a couple more times, I  bet it improves things.

If it continues to be weak, get an aux coolant pump, and plumb it in, so it forces coolant through the matrix ;D

Also - I found the cab a lot warmer with the climate on 27 rather than Hi for some reason.

I've already done the Vacc tests and can't see any problems there.

I hope you get the little niggles fixed, cos as you know it's a sound car especially with all the gaskets and stem seals replaced -

Most of all, I'm pleased you're enjoying it, I thought you would somehow ;) ;D

in getting my elite up to scratch i actually went £100 over budget, but have NO regrets, the power is unreal in comparison to my 2.0, not to mention the actual sound of the engine!!

i worked out that i'd probably only save around £1200 a year by getting a smaller car taking into account fuel, tax and insurance differences, and in my opinion, its worth NOT saving that money because i really love the car!!

ticks all the boxes for everything i ever wanted! a mean roar, a powerful engine, leather, sunroof, and ALL the toys i'd ever want in it

Reason i never upgraded the 2.2 was it was working well and did not see a need to upgrade.

I bought this 3.0 Elite Estate for other reasons:

1) Got it below market value
2) Just had a lot of major work done, it just needed niggles fixing.
3) This is the main on - An experiment, its an Estate, wanted to try it for taking the dog places, and the parents can borrow it at the weekends.

4) For mother tunnie to try, she does quite a bit of motorway miles down to my grandma's in her Nissan Almera, she mentioned she gets very tired driving there (80 miles) Not suprised i am nackered just being a passenger, its noisey, loud, feel the bumps, engine screams...

I think she may like this... but its mine!!!  ;D

If i can get the heat & air-con sorted, the 2.2 will be on Autotrader soon, as the insurance on the Elite is killing me, i have 1 years NCB, where as I have 6 on the 2.2, i can seriously reduce my premium if i switch the NCB.

Its currently £800 a year for the 3.0  :'( - I could get it under £500 if the NCB from the 2.2 goes on!

Thats what i am afraid of.... the 3.0 just does so easily what ragging the 2.2 does.

I am begining to prefer the Estate to the Saloon! - More space, its looks are warming to me.
