Post by: Bacon Butty Man on 11 February 2008, 20:59:52
hi,
i would like to say hello
today i picked up my first Omega, its a 1999 2.5 6v cdx Auto, its a lovely car and reminds me of my old granada's, i have moved from a Passat to this, just a few question if i may, What mpg can i expect if driven , also, its only got one keyfob and dont fancy handing overy £130 for another one from the dealers, What are my options for a spare, are they all the same if i find one thats identical on ebay, just need to change the blade? and what price should i pay, is there anywhere that can code it or is this only dealership job
i got the car off ebay, what a motor, its a beast. take a look i would like to see what you guys think

Looks like you've bought a good one there.

The cambelt changes should be every 40,000 miles or 4 years so yours could need changing soon.

There is a cambelt meet in Telford soon, but it might be better to get it changed sooner.

Welcome BTW

i am thinking of having a go at the cam belt my self so any help would be appreciated, out of 10 i think my mechanical knowlege is 5. Is it difficult, i am aware the running costs of a larger car as i used to have 3 x 2.8i granadas and a 3.0 carlton, i have used most of my budget on the car purchase and enought left over for the actual cam belt and thats it, i am worried i may cock it up, i have never done one befor.
help :-/

If you PM Robin Hood, he will supply you with the DVD, it will also explain the special tools you need.

You will need a GM V6 cam locking/timing kit (not possible without, whatever people may say), and you must change the kit (belt and tensioners).  Waterpump is not cambelt driven, so not critical, but while you're there.....
