Omega Elite 2.5 auto, 1998. My Seatbelt/Airbag warning light came on suddenly and now stays on. I have tried fastening all of the seatbelts simultaneously (ignition on) and that made no difference. How can the airbag side of this warning light be checked?
Failing that I might just have to take the bulb out! (not really).

Gotta hook it up to a diag computer to find the reason, and reset.
No tricks sorry

The airbag ECU does a check every time the ignition is turned on. If it senses a "suspect" airbag then it brings the light on.
The bad news is that the light then stays on even after the fault has been fixed - & the airbag system is disabled.
The most common cause is a dogdy connector, with the seat airbags being the most likely candidate - these are the small yellow connectors underneath the main seat connectors, but they are held in place with an additional (orange) lock.
If you find an obvious problem and solve it (i.e. a connector that wasn't plugged in properly) then it can be reset by one of the guys with a handheld tech device, but it will obviously need a visit to the car. A dealer is also an option but they will charge a lot more.
If it helps, I have a pair of side airbags (in light grey) you are welcome to borrow in determining the problem.

It was the passenger side seat belt pretensioner in my Astra that put the light on - 'high resistance' IIRC.
..... and it isn't MOT'able. ;) ;)

Most common is turning on ign with dash out. See no end of them.
Next most common seems to be the side bag squibs (or their connections in the seat)
Then steering wheel squib, lastly the door sensors.
Don;t think I've seen a passenger airbag one yet

I had to move the car with only one seat in and had a DOH moment as I was turning the key. The airbag light came on, went off again (phew thinks Rob) and then of course came on again! Lesson learned.

Many years back ...... my mate left the dash out of his MkII Capri while he nipped up the road. It was only a mile or two up the road that he felt his leg getting wet. :-/
He'd left the capillary tube type oil pressure gauge disconnected ..... Doh!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

At the Brackley cambelt do a couple of years back, we sent MaxV6 off home quite late in the evening. He returned about 30mins later, it was lashing down, he asked if I could go into my garage and put the wipers back on his car ::) ;D

I remember that. I followed him home in case it ran out of coolant. Not a night to be without wipers. ;D
Thinking about it, it always hacks it down when I go to Brackley. ::)

As yes, the other time you was here, that was a wet, cold day. Although the frequent deludge off the gazebo kept Omegatoy amused for hours ;D
