ps when i put the ingnition on the battery light is dim unlike all the rest of the lights
-
sounds like alternator dead
should be 13.5v to 14.5 ticking over
-
voltage regulator in alternator is knackered
-
would that be the one that bolts on to the back of the alternetot part no 90509438 :-?

Battery warning light illuminated can be down to a number of reasons (slipping drive belt, brushes, regulator, etc).
A correctly working charging system will show anywhere between 13.8V and 14.4V at the battery terminals with the headlights on at 2000rpm.
Any voltage outside of the above figures, you have a problem Houston.
