I've put this up as a new post as I now have an EML light as the instrument panel is fixed following my previous post:

After I fixed the panel yesterday I took the car for a reasonable drive, with no problems. This morning, I went out and about, and at the start of my 3rd journey the EML light came up - surprise surprise.
So, I did the paperclip test and got the following codes:
135 EML light
61 Fuel tank vent voltage
73 MAF voltage low
12 ???
I then put my new "My Naff Code Reader" in and looked at the engine codes and reset them.
61 came straight back on the "My Naff Code Reader", did the paperclip test again and got 61 and 12. I cant see a listing for 12 though - an ideas guys?
Code 61 was there when Mark DTM read the codes with his TECH2 on friday so I'm guessing that the code 12 is the main reason for the light being on?

So, thats a DOH from me as Homer would say.
Ok, if that only leaves me with a 61 code then does that mean that after 20 clean starts that the EML light should go out, or is 61 sufficient to bring the EML light on?

This 20 clean starts bit only refers to the sored code in the ECU. When you fix a fault, the EML light will go out, and then eventually after 20 clean starts the ECU forgets the fault code, but you've already reset your codes with your "My Naff Code Reader". What ever 61 means is still causing a fault.

61 = Fuel Tank Ventilation Valve Voltage Low
I must admit I'm struggling a bit as I cant seem to see where the tank vent valve is even located! There is no reference to it in the Haynes manual.
Its in the wiring diagram though as Y34 and appears to have a single pair of wires to it from the ECU.

Check the connection to the purge valve, rear of R/H cyl. head and vac pipe connections :y

Ok, thanks. I suspect that I could have disturbd something yesterday when I replaced the wiper motor assembly.
Am I looking for an electrical connection or a vacuum one?

Both. It has an electrical connector & vac pipes.
R/H cyl. head = driver`s side

Right, car now in garage, wipers off, scuttle off .......
I couldn't see anything obvious so then removed the black metal bracket and to give myself a bit more room to see. I then removed the vacuum pipe from the brake servo round to the plenum (making a careful note on how it was routed and which little pipes connected to where).
I then pulled back the 2 outer breather pipes (that connect to a "Y" pipe) of the four at the back of the plenum (and shown in the picture below) so that I could also see a bit further down the back. I was a bit surprised to then see another pipe cable tied to the "Y" pipe which didn't appear to go anywhere. Is this the source of the problem or just a breather? I couldn't see anywhere obvious that it could have come from.
I've nicked the following picture from a maint guide, but the pipe I found dosn't appear in this pic? (Ignore the red box as that is the crank sensor connector (I think))
Any ideas, and if someone could direct me to where this wretched thing might be that would be very helpful.

If it is just open to the atmosphere and dissapears down the bulkhead it'll be the gearbox breather :y

Any comments as to where this strange part may be lurking in the picture? I can't see anything really that's attached to the drivers side bank ........... :(

Hi rob the fuel tank vent valve (code 61) will probably be the red/blue connector that you can see to the right of the red box in that pic. I had the same problem when i changed my gaskets and found out i didnt refit the plug. As soon as plug connected light went out.

I'm concerned that I might have damaged the wiring getting the wiper assembly swapped over yesterday.
The thing that is confusing me is that the wretched thing was ok last night and on 2 journeys this morning, only showing up as a fault on the 3rd journey - but with a disturbed connector I guess its difficult.
I can see me virtualy having to lie on top of the engine to get to this :'(

Thanks, I was thinking of removing the bonnet and getting one of those mission impossible hoists and going in from above. But I've had a look at the spec on them and they won't do my weight. ;D
I think that having hands the size of a 3 year old might help as well - so I'm screwed on all fronts really.
There is always something with these blooming cars isn't there!
I start my new job tomorrow and have already sorted taking the Wifes car ........... Breaking down on day 1 would not do much for the old stress levels would it?
I might even leave it a day or 2 before taking another look at it - things frequently improve when you do that I find ....

This is a pig to get to, but have just fitted a replacement valve and hey presto - no ECU light and I could reset the stored 61 error code with "My Naff Code Reader".
Interestingly, I think this was the root cause of why the instrument panel ECU light was bodged on.
The replacement valve has a resistance of 33 ohms, the faulty one has a loose connection inside which I think I must have disturbed when I swapped the wiper assembly over last week.
All I have to do (tomorrow) is put it all back together and the jobs finished.
It dosn't get much of a mention this valve, but I think it must rank up there with the HBV and DIS as horrible jobs - probably why the previous owner did the bodge rather than fork out 2+ hours labour and the £36 for the valve.
