Title: MV6 -Cruise Control?
Post by: pedroMV6 on 25 October 2009, 17:52:06
Summat our Elite has that I'd like on my MV6 is cruise control.
Is it just the stalk then hook up to Tech 2, or more than that?
Mine is a 2.6, 2001 car.

Should be, on the pre/mini facelift cars its a separate module but was changed on the facelifted cars.

Its engines, not the fact its a facelift thats important.

Being a 2.6 its DBW and so you can just fit a replacement stalk, clutch switch if its a manual & and a chat with tech2

It's an auto - is there a switch on the brake pedal?

I know a friendly techie at a local stealers, so no Tech 2 worries! :y

DBW - drive by wire I take it?
I've not even looked to see if there's a throttle cable to be honest. :-[

Are all 2.6 and 3.2 DBW then?

Also, why the increase in capacity?
More Ecowreck stuff so extra ponies needed or summat?

Not false economy at all - a new one won't work any better and someone off here could well be up a few quid - part of the reason this forum exists is to help other members, surely? :y
York Vx main stealer will never see me darken their door again anyway.

No, it is. They are £35 brand new.

I got a second hand one from a scrappy for a tenner, it was horrible to use. Brand news ones have a much nicer feel than earlier ones, none of that horrible clunking.

Perhaps we'll agree to disagree.

2nd hand stalks have been known to often fail.

If you get one dirt cheap / with a cruise setup, feel free to use, no reason not too.

they do however often fail quickly, you find you are flashing people constantly....then the car flashes of its own accord.

the other route is pattern off ebay, cheap, reliable, but mech not as good as original's, indicator cancel often kicks in too soon or too late.

Therefore anyone elses could also suffer from that problem.

I'll take my chances chap! ;)

Not if its brand new  ::) - Like i say the new versions are much better quality with a 'soft touch feel' makes no sound through the stalk when indicating. I bought one for this reason alone.

bought mine from ebay @ £23 new, thinking it was GM. turned out to be pattern, at least was not stamped GM. Different feel to original, quiet in operation without the loud click click as wheel rotates but feels a bit too flexible when cruise buttons pressed and buttons a bit "sticky". Works though and actually cancels better than original which often cancelled too early.

I understand your thoughts for second hand, been there myself... i bought second hand.

For one of the most used items in the car, its worth splashing a little cash, the soft touch on the later stalks really add something. I used to get annoyed with the loud click/clunk the old one did.

And 2nd hand ones are usually tired - start bringing on main beam under braking is the usual fault when they get a few years old.

My 'new best friend' works at a VX dealership, and there's quite a difference between RRP, Trade Club and Staff Discount prices! :y
