JVC KD-PDR61 - For some reason the unit is not holding its memory after turning of the ignition off then back on again. Im not sure if this is because of the car its in or a loose wire or something. It gets a bit annoying having to set the base levels everytime i go for a drive >_<
any thoughts?

has it always done this....or just started?
if always sounds like you need to swap live and switched live connections over. (often bullet connectors presinstalled to allow this)

Yellow and red wires are the wrong way round on the JVC loom - should be on bullets so easy to swap over

I think your Q was fully answered, but just wanted to comment on what idiot at JVC thought of the crap name for that radio. Hardly rolls off the tongue...

haha, i want to know what idiot hasnt included that headunit on its website... anywho, all is fine now, thanks for the help.... now on to my next issue of being able to turn the headunit on without having to have the ignition on... any thoughts on that one?

not without modding the wiring....and then be really sure its what you want....it wont have auto off after an hour like the originals.
why more manufacutures dont mimic that feature I do not know.
lots of people miss it.

It is possible, but I would strongly advise against it as you can inadvertantly start switching on other parts of the vehicle leading to rapid battery drain whether the stereo is on or off. Its not as simple as joing two wires together before someone says it, as you have the aerial booster to contend with also.

hmmm so the only way is to have the ignition on then... but doesnt that do damage to the coils if u leave the ignition on too long?

Yes, but the setup in most cars is to be able to listen to the car whilst driving !

Some keys turn to a position 1 or AUX without the Ign lights coming on, and this, if you have this facility, is generally ok to leave on.

I think the Omega is set up so that the switch feed stays live after you have had the ignition on until you actually take the key out.
If you want the radio then turn the key until the radio lights up and then turn the key back to 0. You don't need to actually start the engine.

Yup, look for W conatct on wiring diags - this goes 12v when ign first switched to I, and stays 12v until key is removed.

Actually, the switched 12v at back of head unit is actually W contact...

ok so i tried this and it doesnt work... i turn the key so that the headunit comes on, then when i turn the key back to 0 the headunit goes off again... i wont even turn on when i press the on button on the unit
as for all the W and 12v switiching :-? i have no clue what any of that really means

I would really suggest to live with it then, as the risk of flattening the battery by messing about is too great on the Omega. Stereo was designed to be listened to whilst driving I`m afraid, not for listening to whilst parked up waiting for those too lazy to walk.
