Im having a bit of difficulty with my car. About a week ago it refused to start. i had ignition lights on the dash, but the starter motor wouldn't spin. Anyway, i swapped the starter motor for a brand spanker and replaced a blown 50 amp fuse that had blown.
Now its all back together, it wont start everytime. it only starts when it feels like it. Im starting to think its a relay somewhere, but don't know where to start. If anyone can assist with any info i would be happy to hear it.
P.s i've checked all electrical connections and nothing is loose.
Cheers Paul

More details needed i.e. year of car, engine size, diesel/petrol, any warning light on dash :)

its a 2.0L x20xev, its a 1997 there's no warning lights at all, non stored in the history. the car was fine till this problem started. when i turn the key to position 3 i can hear a relay in the passanger footwell clicking and nothing happens. I've checked all earth connections so thats not the problem. If anyone can think of anything else that would be great

If it were an automatic I would check that the park/inhibitor switch was working correctly.

sorry forgot to mention, its a manual

Do you get any "clicks" from under the dash when the key is fully turned - have you tried applying any sideways pressure to the key when turning?
Just trying to rule out the ignition switch itself
:-/

yeah getting the relays clicking under the dash, and im fairly confident the ignition switch is fine too. Im wondering if the battery is at fault to be honest. Before all this started, it would go flat within a week. Im wondering if the voltage in the battery gets too low, it doesn't even bother cranking the starter to preserve it. I've got it on charge over night to see if that makes any difference

sounds more like an imobilizer fault may be the plug on the unit, sore same on another form, he said the plug click had come undun. :y did the same to his 50amp fuse and burnt the plug at same time. :(

nice one, i'll look into it tomoz when theres a bit of daylight. is that the plug thats in the passenger footwell behind the kick plate ;)

When you say it won't start, do you mean it's turning over & won't fire, or won't turn over on the key/starter motor. Imobilser problems won't stop it from turning over. ;)
