What he^^ said! My vodaphone full size card is put in with the gold bit of the SIM facing upwards & inserted first. I tried one of the cardboard adapters to start with and didn't any joy with it - far too long back now to remember what message I got  ;) If it's just the small SIM you're using, try sellotaping it to the main card it was snapped out of.  :y

i guess also since its all the same size you could put it in 'backwards' and upside down.... not sure what way around they should be put in.

I did this yesterday with an O2 sim card.It worked on the third try and i had to use force to get the card fully in the slot.
The first time the card didnt go in deep enough to get beyond the pop out panel..but after a bit (a lot) of wiggling the card slipped right in.Then restarted the thing and bingo. (contacts up the way on the card.)
It is so peachy when working already i cant live without it.)also the sim was free with a tenner credit from o2.

You don't want to do what I did, which was pop out the small sim and put that into the socket. it took me a while to retrieve it with a butter knife. LOL.

Enfield. The phone popped up and worked first time after the sim went in.(the wee signal strength thingy on the lower right appeared emmediately) and i got notification of five new messages from 02.I didnt realise that you could read texts from it too!cool..
Does the sim card go completely into the slot?
so that it is behind the pop out panel?

Hi, When you put the card in does it 'click' into place? i had a problem with mine where somebody had got a sim (not on card) stuck in there, my sim went in but i could feel an obstuction, i took the other sim out and new one just clicked into place and hey presto! hth    :)

Hi Des yes it does feel like it is clicking into place ok, goes in all the way past were the little panel goes on, i am just debating wether to pull the stereo out and carefully take the outer casing off to see if there is any obstruction inside causing it not to work????? how easy this is i do not know as i dont have the radio keys for a vx any more so was debating on making some make shift one for time being

I think at this stage, I would be looking to see if any of teh gold connector springs on the head unit had bent backwards and not engaging with the contacts on the sim

clutching at straws a bit I`m afraid   :-/

The only thing not done is to remove the cassette cartridge for better access to the sim card holder

Glad you got it working :) As i said on a previous thread im struggling with the reception on mine, I have tried changing aerial to an after market one and had no joy, and recently tried a (proper) replacement, but the reception is patchy at best.
What sim did you end up using and what is your reception like?

I have been looking for a signal booster thingy on net but not had any joy.
do you know you can operate the phone via steering wheel controls instead of reaching down to head unit?  :)

Using o2 at the minute, but have tried orange as well (same results) and i am waiting for vodafone sim, but i think its the aerial rather than the sim, as when i am in town it loses signal in built up areas.
I live in preston but travel to burnley a lot which is in a hilly area but even so i still get good reception on my mobile, but doesnt even register on car phone.
i've checked all connections etc to no joy, Dave DND said i probably bought a radio aerial off the net and that i should try and get an original, which i did, but it is still the same, its a good job it is fixed in the car as it would have gone out of the window by now!!!!!!! :)

I'm using vodafone in mine, thought that as my mobile is with o2 would be pointless using another o2 in the car. I just set my mobile to divert to the car when I'm driving. Mines got the short stumpy aerial and constantly get 3-4 bar reception.

Des, maybe you have a loose connection behind the HU or the aerial?

Thanks for the reply :y  I have checked connections and messed with them whilst unit switched on but it has no effect whatsoever, The best reception i have had is 3 bars but when driving i am lucky if i even see the phone sign light up in most areas :(

I use one of these with my Nokia hands free kit. I don't know if the FME socket will connect directly to the VX unit. It is easier to install than a roof aerial, just need to take the glove box out to thread the wire through.

I don't know if i am barking up the wrong tree????  but i have noticed that the head unit uses 900mhz Gsm and the modern ones use 2100mhz.
Does this mean up to and including and backward compatible, or are they two seperate systems??  head getting cabbaged now!!! :'(

Mine is the 2015 radio with the telematics unit in the glovebox.  Runs Voda no probs, unless really out in the sticks.  Like others, I simply forward calls to my mobile to the car and use it completely legit on hands free.  A P&G sim in the car and can call out as and when.

Pics attached of the ariel base on mine but might be different as its also got satnav....   :y

I think the first wave of GSM phones were 900MHz (Vodafone/Cellnet) and the second wave were 1800MHz (121/Orange).

3G (third generation) mobile phones I think use 2100MHz and different technology to the GSM phones.

The phone in the Omega can only work with 900MHz. If you get an antenna that works with lots of frequencies thats fine just as long as 900MHz is one of them.

So Vodafone and Cellnet (became O2) or any company piggy backing off their networks should be fine so long as it isn't a 3G sim card.

Note - I think 1G were analogue, 2G means GSM/digital and 3G means newer faster/digital. The telematics unit seems to be limited to 900MHz GSM.

Not convinced thats the right one, and I think the seller may have it wrong. That is indeed the same FM aerial base used throughout the Vx range for most of the cars, but if you see the description that says Astra / Vectra etc, then walk away, as they are FM radio aerials, NOT the dedicated GSM aerial as used on the Omega. The Omega Beesting DOES NOT support FM radio and is GSM only. To the best of my knowledge, the Omega aerial base is not shared with any other Vauxhall car, although may look physically similar, and I would also be exceptionally surprised if you found one for sale on ebay.

There must be someone on here breaking a car with an aerial up for grabs

You got a Vx headunit right? That red block loom looks like an adaptor for other headuntis, just remove that and plug what goes into the red connector into the back of the head unit?

Or am i missing something?  :-/

Thanks for reply :) If you look at the main body of wires it looks like someone has cut and joined them together again and also under the main wires there are a bunch of yellow and a few blues just twisted together!  Does this lead go straight into the main loom or is there a block connector so i can just change the bit that goes to the head unit? If you know what i mean? thanks

The short loom from head unit to red plug is a trafficmaster loom.

The twisted together wires need tracing back to wherever they go..... Main loom isn't changeable without stripping the whole dash.

I was hoping nobody was going to say that :( I may open a can of worms if i start messing, it looks as though its had a different head unit at sometime and rather than get the correct plug they have just bodged the wireing >:(
