got a ccr 700 head unit, tried tesco and vodafone sim cards in but no joy just says insert sim?????????? any ideas please peeps as its doing my head in now
-
putting the card in the right way up?
-
What he^^ said! My vodaphone full size card is put in with the gold bit of the SIM facing upwards & inserted first. I tried one of the cardboard adapters to start with and didn't any joy with it - far too long back now to remember what message I got ;) If it's just the small SIM you're using, try sellotaping it to the main card it was snapped out of. :y
-
i guess also since its all the same size you could put it in 'backwards' and upside down.... not sure what way around they should be put in.
-

See above! ::)

Oh yeh ;D

I did this yesterday with an O2 sim card.It worked on the third try and i had to use force to get the card fully in the slot.
The first time the card didnt go in deep enough to get beyond the pop out panel..but after a bit (a lot) of wiggling the card slipped right in.Then restarted the thing and bingo. (contacts up the way on the card.)
It is so peachy when working already i cant live without it.)also the sim was free with a tenner credit from o2.
-
well done shell .there might be an old sim stuck in there some where but it sounds as though you have pushed it to one side that happened to me i took the radio out and turned it on uts side .then popped out an old sim card .no problem now enjoy your phone ! :y
-
You don't want to do what I did, which was pop out the small sim and put that into the socket. it took me a while to retrieve it with a butter knife. LOL.
-
tried it sim up with the sim going in first and nowt, yep it is on the full size card aswell ??????? will keep trying as said it comes up sos call only insert sim
-
Enfield. The phone popped up and worked first time after the sim went in.(the wee signal strength thingy on the lower right appeared emmediately) and i got notification of five new messages from 02.I didnt realise that you could read texts from it too!cool..
Does the sim card go completely into the slot?
so that it is behind the pop out panel?

Im determined to do it!!! just because i can!
Although it took me 25 mins to delete 5 messages and acces my voice mail

tried everything and nothing still, sos call only and insert sim ???? guess it might be faulty or just dirty from not having a sim card in it
-
still nothing at all i am just debating on giving up on the idea as it is really bugging me now
-
any new ideas peeps as i would love to get it working, tried everything now and still nothing just the same message. Sim inserted correct way up and pushed fully in as far as it will go but nothing ?????? could it be a fault with the head unit in the car or something else........
Tried v/fone, tesco and o2 sims in it to no avail :-/ :'( :'(
-
Hi, When you put the card in does it 'click' into place? i had a problem with mine where somebody had got a sim (not on card) stuck in there, my sim went in but i could feel an obstuction, i took the other sim out and new one just clicked into place and hey presto! hth :)
-
Hi Des yes it does feel like it is clicking into place ok, goes in all the way past were the little panel goes on, i am just debating wether to pull the stereo out and carefully take the outer casing off to see if there is any obstruction inside causing it not to work????? how easy this is i do not know as i dont have the radio keys for a vx any more so was debating on making some make shift one for time being
-
I think at this stage, I would be looking to see if any of teh gold connector springs on the head unit had bent backwards and not engaging with the contacts on the sim
clutching at straws a bit I`m afraid :-/
-
right had the radio out (metal coat hangers are ace lol) gently took the top and bottom plate of the head unit cant see any obstructions in there at all and it is clicking into place ok, dont have a small enough torx bit though to remove the cassette cartridge to gain better access. dave dnd you may have a pm in a mo lol regards testing the phone part if you can

The only thing not done is to remove the cassette cartridge for better access to the sim card holder

exactly which is why i wanted it working so i am legal if i am in the car. Now know how to strip a ccrt 700 to its components lol

Glad you got it working :) As i said on a previous thread im struggling with the reception on mine, I have tried changing aerial to an after market one and had no joy, and recently tried a (proper) replacement, but the reception is patchy at best.
What sim did you end up using and what is your reception like?

got o2 in at the mo and i am getting 4 bars next to the little radio mast on the mid :)
-
Wow!! four bars, i never have that even right next to mast lol,
I have been looking for a signal booster thingy on net but not had any joy.
do you know you can operate the phone via steering wheel controls instead of reaching down to head unit? :)

what sim have you got in it des ?????

Using o2 at the minute, but have tried orange as well (same results) and i am waiting for vodafone sim, but i think its the aerial rather than the sim, as when i am in town it loses signal in built up areas.
I live in preston but travel to burnley a lot which is in a hilly area but even so i still get good reception on my mobile, but doesnt even register on car phone.
i've checked all connections etc to no joy, Dave DND said i probably bought a radio aerial off the net and that i should try and get an original, which i did, but it is still the same, its a good job it is fixed in the car as it would have gone out of the window by now!!!!!!! :)

lol would not worry des mine is saying insert sim again now lol, gotta come out again by the looks of it, yeah know what you mean about it going out the window
-
quick update been out in the car today have not touched the head unit, the misses gives me a poke an says look................. hey presto started working again on its own ??????????? must be one of those annoying vauxhall trates, have not seen the insert in any vx handbook were it says how the car will wind the driver up lol
-
Just out of interest is your aerial a standard vauxhall stumpy one?

Hi Des it is pretty long and is wound from the were it screws into the base to the tip, will get a picture of it if it will help, now getting 3 - 4 bars of signal
-
pic would really help as if i can find one at least i'll be able to rule the aerial out of the equasion :)
-
I have noticed there have been a few people viewing this post and was wondering if anybody would post up what type of aerial they are using and what their reception is like.
Thanks in advance :)
-
I'm using vodafone in mine, thought that as my mobile is with o2 would be pointless using another o2 in the car. I just set my mobile to divert to the car when I'm driving. Mines got the short stumpy aerial and constantly get 3-4 bar reception.
Des, maybe you have a loose connection behind the HU or the aerial?

Thanks for the reply :y I have checked connections and messed with them whilst unit switched on but it has no effect whatsoever, The best reception i have had is 3 bars but when driving i am lucky if i even see the phone sign light up in most areas :(
-
will get a picture in a bit and post it up later when i get in mate, then at least you will know what aerial i have :y
-
I use one of these with my Nokia hands free kit. I don't know if the FME socket will connect directly to the VX unit. It is easier to install than a roof aerial, just need to take the glove box out to thread the wire through.

I don't know if i am barking up the wrong tree???? but i have noticed that the head unit uses 900mhz Gsm and the modern ones use 2100mhz.
Does this mean up to and including and backward compatible, or are they two seperate systems?? head getting cabbaged now!!! :'(
-
Mine is the 2015 radio with the telematics unit in the glovebox. Runs Voda no probs, unless really out in the sticks. Like others, I simply forward calls to my mobile to the car and use it completely legit on hands free. A P&G sim in the car and can call out as and when.
Pics attached of the ariel base on mine but might be different as its also got satnav.... :y

I think the first wave of GSM phones were 900MHz (Vodafone/Cellnet) and the second wave were 1800MHz (121/Orange).
3G (third generation) mobile phones I think use 2100MHz and different technology to the GSM phones.
The phone in the Omega can only work with 900MHz. If you get an antenna that works with lots of frequencies thats fine just as long as 900MHz is one of them.
So Vodafone and Cellnet (became O2) or any company piggy backing off their networks should be fine so long as it isn't a 3G sim card.
Note - I think 1G were analogue, 2G means GSM/digital and 3G means newer faster/digital. The telematics unit seems to be limited to 900MHz GSM.

Thanks :) Your mast looks like the one i bought off the net

The base you show in your link is distinctly different from mine. As said, mine also does for the inbuilt satnav and is approximately three times the length of the one you link to....

Sorry, I should have explained better :-[ The base is the same as mine but it only has 2 wires going to it (the thin ones) and the mast, which is simular to yours i purchased seperately off the net :)

Not convinced thats the right one, and I think the seller may have it wrong. That is indeed the same FM aerial base used throughout the Vx range for most of the cars, but if you see the description that says Astra / Vectra etc, then walk away, as they are FM radio aerials, NOT the dedicated GSM aerial as used on the Omega. The Omega Beesting DOES NOT support FM radio and is GSM only. To the best of my knowledge, the Omega aerial base is not shared with any other Vauxhall car, although may look physically similar, and I would also be exceptionally surprised if you found one for sale on ebay.
There must be someone on here breaking a car with an aerial up for grabs
:-/

You got a Vx headunit right? That red block loom looks like an adaptor for other headuntis, just remove that and plug what goes into the red connector into the back of the head unit?
Or am i missing something? :-/
-
Thanks for reply :) If you look at the main body of wires it looks like someone has cut and joined them together again and also under the main wires there are a bunch of yellow and a few blues just twisted together! Does this lead go straight into the main loom or is there a block connector so i can just change the bit that goes to the head unit? If you know what i mean? thanks
-
The short loom from head unit to red plug is a trafficmaster loom.
The twisted together wires need tracing back to wherever they go..... Main loom isn't changeable without stripping the whole dash.

I was hoping nobody was going to say that :( I may open a can of worms if i start messing, it looks as though its had a different head unit at sometime and rather than get the correct plug they have just bodged the wireing >:(
