Title: 2.5td cruise control addition help please
Post by: Shark1e on 24 December 2009, 21:59:04
Hi all,

i have a 1999 omega cddt 2.5 estate, been told i can just swap standard indicator stalk for a 2 wire cruise control stalk and it will give me cruise control, surely it can't be that easy can it?
can anyone give us lesser imortals an idiots guide step by step on the following:

what parts are needed?
how easy is it?
will it fit 2.5td?
etc etc

thanks in advance

Yup, thats it.

Part number ends in 012 (can never remember full number). Dealer will know.

No extra parts, around £35 + VAT iirc. Buy new, 2nd hand dont last

Probably a 15 min job. (that's what mine took!)

1) remove the steering column shroud, (top & bottom, 4 screws)
2) unplug existing switch, (depress two lugs, & pull switch away)
3) push new CC switch into column
4) connect 2 pin switch to connector (you may have to look around near the column for it, mine was taped to the loom)
5) replace both halves of shroud.

Job done, just pop off and test!!  :y

MERRY CHRISTMAS to one and all!!  :)

just wondering if anyone knows what the difference is for the 011 and 012 cruise control stalk? i know 001 has a 4 wire plug and 012 has a 2 wire plug,
only i took off my steering coloum cowles and found my c/c 2 wire plug, and my thought is if only 2 wires then what do the 2 wires actually control? why can't a push button switch work? as in sprung loaded on / off etc, wondering if it is just to activate hold on throttle? can the stalk alter speed you want? or is it just basic on / off,

thanks shark1e

011 presents all switches (simple push to make) on seperate wires (hence 4, 3 for switches and a common). 012 uses a resistor network.

oh right cheers,

just spoke to my local dealers in cannock and being in the omega owners club he will give me 10% discount on all parts, and the stalk new is £48.75 inc vat then less 10% so £4.87 off, not bad i suppose.

Not quite as simple as on/off.
It obviously activates the CC above 20mph and keep tapping it and it will further increase speed.
If you increase speed by pedal operation it will return back to your set lower speed, unless you've cancelled that. Also and I only found this out recently it will also
return back to a preset speed if you had to brake say, by tapping the button to resume cruise.
One thing it won't do that petrol models do is decrease speed by tapping the button, it's just one tap and cancelled.
BTW it really is a doddle to fit, easiest upgrade I've done. :y

the stalk was even left on the car floor lol, so whipped off my cowels and fitted in scrappy, test drove up dual carriageway and increases, decreases, holds, disengages.

cruise is a must have, although i noticed loads of people speeding up then slowing down, then speeding up again.

I set mine at bang on 80mph and it just sits there alllll day long  :)

Post by: Shark1e on 29 December 2009, 15:19:23
lol mines about 4mph out compared to tomtom, so 80=76

just got to get the flat spot sorted unless its me expecting too much pull in low revs, most of time have to drop down a gear if round 2500 seems flat.

Correct  TB, owners manual states 'decrease does not work on diesel models', only set, & release.
Only activates when speed is over 30mph too...

Great addition to the car, cheapest easiest mod ever!!  :y

Knowing BMW, decrease function would be classed as an 'optional extra' on top of the optional extra  ;D

sure it does so will have to check again,

got a small issue poss connected to adding cruise control, i'm sure i heard a low pop noise from near centre console, got in car this morn to find no dash lights except indicators, air bag, oil etc etc, main illumination bulbs in clocks and heater controls have gone out, but light switch on right for main lights still lights up, need to check a fuse first i reckon,
will have to try to sort before leaving work later.
Title: Re: 2.5td cruise control addition help please
Post by: Shark1e on 30 December 2009, 19:17:18
help needed urgently please, i still have no dashboard or any heater control illumination lights, stripped speedo out and replaced the bulbs again, the previous were still ok but not taking any chances,
tested circuit tracks for 3 capless bulbs 12v/2w for the illumination, tested glove box bulb ok, can't get to heater controls bulbs, i have made sure dimmer is up full, the dash is dead not dim either, i have all warning bulbs working like abs, oil, etc etc, just no illuminations
cruise control works, as do reverse lights, auto level not sure i have it? radio, hazzards, fag lighter, electric mirrors and seat adjust ok,

test all fuses under bonnet all ok,

so can anyone let me have a circuit diagram for the dash and heater controls please, or does anyone know if there is a seperate fuse for the illumination i can't locate? i have power at fuse 15 that supposedly controls the dash lights etc,

i really am well and truly stuffed here and would be so grateful for any help.

thanks in advance

rob

i have sorted it now, it was a loose connection behind the heater controls panels, nice one vauxhall another fine wiring job,
just got 2 more bulbs to replace in the ashtray and that should be it,

thanks anyone who is loooking into this,

admin sorry if this went a bit off topic but thought it was all connected to cruise control fitment.

another update also, the cruise does NOT have decrease, ooops it has increase - resume - off and i'm still chuffed to bits its working great.

happy new year all

Glad its sorted.

Might be worth trying to get a cheap haynes from egay. Doesn't cover your engine at all, but does include wiring diags.

The TIS2000 on egay that claim to be haynes on a CD only cover wiring on 2002 and 2003 models.

Fascinating thread this. I wonder what VX charged to fit cruise as an extra to a Td? A bit more than £35 I'll wager. ;D ;D ;D
