Has anyone on here been able to convert the Omega key, to the newer VX flip style ones?
Have seen them done on VX sites ive been on before, but not sure if it could be done on the Omega. Its an awesome mod if it can be done
-
It can be done, but it`s an awesome job ::)
-
Have seen some people before try cutting the key to bits and transferring all the internals.
Have seen someone with an Astra get a new style key, cut a new key to fit the older style car, and then use tech2 to programme the key to the older style cars ecu. All that was needed was the cars 4 digit code.
Any ideas if this can be done with an Omega?

Ive asked this before, and it cant be done. To make it work you need to phsyically get your old key inside the flippy key. They cant be programmed to the omega. :(

And the gain of it? The key is pretty much still the same size?
You need to use the electronics from Omega key, and I think the blade inself is different.

This has been linked to in the past ...... http://www.yellowdawg.co.uk/flipkey/Untitled-1.html and IIRC there was another at some time .... :y

For me the flip keys loose there appeal very quickly, got them on the wife's Astra, and to be perfectly honest they never get folded shut anymore.
They where a novelty for about a month when we got the car, but then it just becomes a pain, another button to push just to get in the car :(
Sorry, but just our opinion.

Pig of a job
Takes a couple of days
Best to use a new blade with flip end and Omega profile.
£30 for me to do it - you supply all parts.
I have done 4

Really, thats very reasonable tbh. Did you use an Astra or Veccy flip key? Or the fatter Antara flip key (Antara has the same size thick blade, unlike the new thinner blades)?
I havent bought an Omega yet. Still looking, but when I do can I give u a shout?
Oh and any pics of the ones you've done?
Cheers mate

Martin has done 2 for me and both have been perfect..would agree it is better to get new blades and have them cut as the pin hole seemed to be a weak point.
I have used mine on a daily basis now for several months and it is fine..actually I think it fits into your pocket better than existing type..but just own preference.

Thanks mate, invaluable to get first hand experience. When I find the Omega thats out there waiting for me to buy. This will be near the top of the 'to do list!'

I might be sending you my spare key then Martin ;)

The flip key is a nice touch and Martin made a good job of them...as said they work perfect and fit neater into pocket or SWMBO ,s bag.

I used whatever ones the key owners supplied me.
I have not yet done a three button one, someone is supposed to be sending one to me but I have not yet heard back

Thanks for the feedback, I am glad they still work well

Flippin 'eck, it sounds like a lot of work ;D

First dismantle the flip fob, only one would dismantle without sawing.
Grind away most of the insides, strip down source fob and grind that down as much as possible.
I do screw and glue them - I can break them apart if I have any issues.
Earlier Ashtray keys require the side of the fob to be machined back as well.
-
Nice touch and quite tempting... ...But I think I can live without it ::)
-
I job I'd for myself just for the challenge. But simply won't bother, as you end up with a key thats more bulky than you started with.
-
are you on about the one that looks like a credit card??

No, the Astra style one.
-
oh saw one that looks like a credit card key in the mid, :y
-
Martin, how much do you charge for a 3-button fob refurb? My spare is starting to need a really heavy press to get any response.
I had the other one done last year, not sure if that was you, do you get work from eBay?
