Title: Fobs & transponders
Post by: RobG on 18 January 2010, 14:22:26
Current miggy has 1 complete key + a spare cut blade but no chip :-? On the breaker I`ve got 2 keys with nearly new fobs and knackered ign. switch. If I replace the C/L/alarm ecu behind the driver`s kick panel and the immobiliser module on the ign. switch can I just swap the chips and fobs onto my keys or is there other work involved. TIA :)

Depends if the ECUs are all compatible. You will need to swap the engine ECU as well as this is also paired with the transponder and immobiliser module. A better way might be to get the fobs and immobiliser chips paired with your car and leave the ECUs be.

As Kev says, engine ecu as well.

Heed his advice, reprogram old transponders to current ecu - much tidier.  And be wary of using laptop based diag software, particularly illegal copies, as I've seen them corrupt the ecu
