Thing is ive taken off the facia as the buttons arnt responding, but the mid is still removing the date asif the radio is on. Ive parked up in town coz im out, but when i removed the key the mid is still lit up. I dont wanna set alarm incase the mid current draw sets it off. I also dont wanna drain the battery. helppp. Appoligies if this is badly written im in resturant on my phone worried

Curious :-/ :-/
Is there a reset button on the head unit (I'm assuming it's an aftermarket jobbie?
-
No reset that im aware of. Its an alpine from 3 ta 4years ago. When i get home after meal, im gunna slide it out then in and see what happens
-
Well fook knows what happened. Got back in the car, and the MID was still lit up. Started it up and the radio and MID started work fine.

If problems still persist, try unplugging the power connectors from the aerial amplifier, as can cause a similar problem.
Just for info, the Beesting aerials on other Vx vehicles are failing due to frost and waters ingress at an alarming rate, and can give a very similar fault due to the electronics in the bass of the antenna going short circuit. Easy to diagnose, unplug the aerial at its base, NOT at the rear of the radio.

Puzzling :-/
I thought all Omegas used the heated rear screen as the aerial (via the aerial amplifier under the fibre rear shelf). I understood that the bee-sting aerials are for GSM (and GPS if NCDC is fitted).

Yup your right, apart from Estates. Rear heated screen too small & wrong angle, so they had Ariels on the roof.

Yup my aerial is in the rear screen.

I was referring to other Vauxhall with my aerial observations,
however,
Does the GSM antenna base have any electronics inside it like the radio ones do? Can`t say I`ve ever opened one up?
:-?

Oops, sorry. Plain as day if I had payed more attention.
I suppose the lesson is the same though, there must be a stray supply powering the line to switch the display and aerial amplifier. A damp/wet/corroded/faulty aerial amplifier (whether it be in the bee sting or under the parcel shelf) could backfeed the display.

Not only the display, but can actually power up the ignition circuit in many cars also - flat battery in the morning is usually the first you know of it
