I had the distinct impression that the seatbelt pretensioners on pre/fl seats would have some sort of electrical connection and if the seat electrics were unplugged an airbag warning light would come on if the ignition was switched on.
I have just inspected the seats more closely and the pretensioners dont appear to have any electrical connections, the two wiring plugs which go to the seats are for up/ down and heat.
Can anyone confirm or shed any more light on the subject please, Im confused (it doesnt take much) ::) :-/ :-/

They are mechanical. There is a ball bearing inside the tube that releases a strong spring.
To prevent them being activated by accident, i.e wen being removed/stored etc, there is a red stowage clip that must be inserted to keep them safe. It should be attached to the seat on a thin retaining line.

Thanks Robert, I saw the red clips and used them. :y I was pretty certain that there was some sort of electrical connection which set them off if the airbag activated, so presumably its an inertia activation system or similar ? :-/

up to 97, mechanical (like yours)
98 on, pyrotechnic, far more fun ::)

The seats Im putting in are leather memory, presumably from post 98, so next problem will be what do I do about the pretensioners on them ? :-/ :'(............I hate electrickery. ::)

Can't you swap the old type over to your 'new' seats? :-/

got side airbags, thats a good way to check if seats are pre/post 98

unless you specify the delete passenger airbag option in which case the side airbags get dropped too :y

Yep, got side airbags. So am I correct in thinking that the pretensioners would be connected via the side airbags ? If so that means they wont work, which Im not bothered about tbh, as long as it wont bring up a warning light or present problems at the MOT, which I wouldnt have thought it would.
So if thats the case all I have to do is get the wiring sorted for the seats to operate the motors and memory. Not as bad as I first thought by the look of it. 8-) :)

No, the two are not connected.
You need to move the mechanial pre-tensioners from your old seats and replace the electrical ones on the "new" seats. Just ignore the yellow wiring for the side airbags.
If you want to be really tidy then remove the backs of the seats and the yellow side airbag cables simply unplug. Will remove any chance of the connectors getting connected to anything that could "upset" them :y

If you was in an accident, insurance may be invalid if pretensioners not functional - might be worth trying to swap them over

Excellent, I know the way forward now. :-[ ::).......Many thanks TB and Robert. :y
