After disconnecting battery and reconnecting cannot reset radio it is stuck on safe and whatever I try it will not go to code. Left overnight but no better has never been a problem befofe .Any ideas. This is on my 1996 V6 radio with 6 CD changer
-
Have you tried entering the code several times ?? as after each unsucessful code attempt the unit requires a wait time in multiples,so after 3 or 4 attempts wait time is a few hours.
If you have tried 10 times or more the set is locked and will require removal and repairing by specialist.
-
No I have not entered code because I cant get that far. Battery has been connected and disconnected a few times but no code has been entered
-
Manual states..that you should NOT switch off the set during the wait time............10 seconds for first two code attempts then 10 minutes and by 1oth attempt you are at 640 minutes(nearly 11 hours !!)
-
When you switch on set is it stating "safe mode" ?
-
yes says safe
-
SAFE with no number to the left means that your ignition was not turned on first.

You need to refer to the audio manual with car and then follow the proceedure for entering the radio code, assuming you have the code with the car .
Method differs for models but basically it is a 4 digit security code that must be entered when ever there is a break in power such as battery removal.
Hope that helps ?

SAFE or CDC SAFE? Your profile suggests you drive a 2003 V6, this code is for 1996 head unit?
-
Tunnie Just safe on display this is on my 1996 v6 not the 2003. If you have to wait a long time for resets is it ok to leave the ignition on for a long time I have seen 2 hours mentioned before in posts

To get the radio to a state whereit'll accept the code you have to turn the ignition on, then turn the radio off. Press & hold AS as you turn the radio on again keeping AS held till you get a beep .... then enter the code.

Put your radio model number here (not the car) and I`ll give you the correct sequence
-
Andy model SC804 with cd in boot. If the radio is switched on with ignition off does it stay powered or does it switch off automatically after a certain period
-
Code Entry as Follows:
Turn Off Stereo
Switch On Ignition (No Need To Start Engine)
Switch Radio On - Display Shows
" SAFE " And Then Shows " 10 - - - - "
Press preset " 1 " repeatedly for 1st Digit
Press preset " 2 " repeatedly for 2nd Digit
Press preset " 3 " repeatedly for 3rd Digit
Press preset " 4 " repeatedly for 4th Digit
If the correct code number is now shown
Press & Hold Preset " AS " Until the Unit Beeps

Thanks Dave I cant get past Safe have left radio switched on and now have to take the wife shopping!!. be back soon I hope
-
Inthat case, check that you haven`t blown any fuses whilst reconnecting the battery - if either Ignition or memory feed are missing, then radio will remain on SAFE.
SAFE with no numbers = Ignition not on or supply interrupted
SAFE with numbers = Codelocked
-
Just to reiterate (or slightly change Dave DNDs instructions...
Switch ign ON
Ensure radio is switched OFF (switch off if necessary)
Switch Radio ON
It is not good enough to switch ign on and have the radio come on automatically. The ign must be on before the radio is switched on
Hope that makes sense

Thanks for all your help .Left radio switched on for about 3 hours. Code came up, entered first 3 numbers, on the 4th the pixel had died had a guess and entered and Hey presto Radio came on. I assume that if you were to lose all pixels on display you could count the number of presses on the button. I am still not sure whether the radio stays on if switched on without the ignition on surely there must be a time delay switch off otherwise you could flatten the battery if left on. Thanks again
