Title: facelift CD removal-hints please
Post by: d737 on 20 February 2010, 10:10:24
I have not got a 'double din removal tool' so is there anything else that might work/help?

4 nails.

But as these double din units tend to stick, and are right sods to remove even with the keys, I'd invest in some proper £4.99 keys from Hellfrauds - they sell autoleads ones, which aren't great, but with a bit of filing ::)

Moving to ICE/Electrical section for better answers :y

I've used four pop-rivets...approx 3mm diameter or
4 smallish allen-key type tools.

Double din removal tools are fine, until the bulges at the tips of the prongs wear down, then they just slip out for fun.

Good quality removal tools in good condition.

Once you get it started,
Use a plastic spatula from a body filler kit to ease out the facia...this way you wont damage it, like you would with a metal screwdriver or similar.

I wouldn't lever the facia on a ccr2006 or a NCDC range - the facia to stereo plastics are very weak.  Your stereo is much better in this respect :y

I wouldn`t use anything against the side of the fascia of ANY Double DIN stereo, they come away from the board with a lot of damage every time.

If using Halfords or Autoleads tools, file the notch on the end to give a very sharp edge to pull against or it will not latch to the radio and keys will keep coming out.

Genuine Vx tools are very good.

Thanks to you all, removed successfully with Halfords stuff!
