I was thinking of changing my headlight bulbs for the high intensity type. I can change the main beam bulb but I am not sure on the dipped bulb. Any advice please. 2003 2.6 V6 cd

I'm not sure whether you actually mean HID's :-/ Apart from all the legallities or not etc of levelling sensors & washers factory fit HID's are only fitted to the dipped beam, because they don't react fast enough for the main beam eg for flash.

for standard projector lamps, Osram Nightbreakers are a good upgrade and give a decent improvement in light output :y

I you are reffering to 100watt bulbs for the main beam do not do it.
Yes it will be better for you maybe till the cops catch you.
Plus you'll be blinding every driver from the opposite direction.

You swap from main beam to dipped beam for oncoming traffic, so higher wattage bulbs won't blind then per se, legal 60 watt are more than capable of blinding them if you don't dip ;). I don't believe a copper has the power to be able to check up on the rating of lamps fitted :-/.
More applicable for high power bulbs is whether the wiring is capable of supplying a 100 watt bulb.

Thanks for that. All I want to do is get a better headlight They do not seem to be very good at present I assume that I have standard bulbs at present

in the UK it is NOT illegal to have brighter bulbs in your car.

Bri cox It was the Halfords bulbs I was thinking about but I am not sure of the set up on my newly aquired facelift. Are there two bulbs main and dipped . I dont think that they are double filament are they. If there are two I assume that you can change both but the Halfords book only showed one type available for the Omega

So, why do the 100 watt etc lamps have 'not for road use' on them Stu?
-
seemples :-
it IS illegal for a manufacturer to supply a vehicle with them fitted.
and it IS illegal for a bulb manufacturer or reseller to supply them.
BUT it is definitely not illegal to have a car which has them fitted.

agreed .. but it IS illegal to have "unmarked" bulbs .. all bulbs must either have the "E" mark or a "BSI" mark

many bulbs sold on eblay carry no approval markings and are therefore illegal.

oh yes - it's definitely a requirement to have "E" or "e" - marked bulbs.
all of the bulbs you can buy will be approved - it's been a long time since I've seen one which isn't - and I do audit work on this subject on behalf of HMG.
the brighter bulbs such as 80/100's will be approved
