Currently driving an early 1995 Omega CDX - existing seperate remote IR device is knackered. Can these still be obtained from VX Dealer and how can they be re-programmed?
Thanks
-
have you got your car pass code??
-
unfortunately I do not have the Car Pass code.
-
I'm not the expert but both mine and the other half's cars have these. I got a new old stock one of Ebay but apparently they have to be programmed by someone with a Tech 1 not Tech2 'cos Tech 2 won't do it. I'm sure one of the other guys will confirm or elaborate on this but that's how I understand it. My existing remote won't work unless you more or less wave it in the drivers door window whereas the wife's remote works from about 10 feet away!!

There are 2 types of security fitted. 1 just an immobiliser; 1 immobiliser and alarm. The former has no code the latter needs a code. A main dealer can send away for it but they will charge.
From memory a new IR key can be bought for £40 - £60 from a dealer. It can be programmed using a tech 2. You just plug it in and then point it at the roof as if you were resynching.
Cannot remember who did mine. Aylesbury autolocks? Remember a lot of people talked a lot of rubbish until I found the guy and in the end he was here about 3 minutes coding the key.

For all IR cars, Tech2 will *NOT* be able to program keys.
Would have to check, but would have thought all IRs would need a code, regardless of alarm or not :-/. Not got a Tech1 to play with though.
Tech2 can do all non-IR cars, all of which need a code regardless of alarm or not.

Does the "My Naff Code Reader" cover the IR or does it no go back far enough? If not have fun trying to find ALDL software! :o

I really wouldn't trust that to do any programming - seen the results of "My Naff Code Reader"s attempts to program fobs to alarms, and pair radios to displays. Mind you, I'm getting a better-than-50% success rate at recovering from "My Naff Code Reader"'s corruptions...

I can pick a tech1 up fairly cheaply it's the software that I'm finding very hard to find

Omega has a specific cartridge iirc.

correct!!!! would offer to do any oof members cars with mine should they need it,trouble is they have to drive to spain!!!! :y

If you're a bit cunning you can actually transplant the chip that holds the code from a non-working/poorly working IR remote into A.N. Other.
See here: http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1255721218
Happy to have a go at this for any members with this problem, no gaurantees obviously, as parts could be damaged during the transplant surgery.

When I got my new IR key for my '94 mig the auto locksmith just plugged in what I assumed to be a tech 2 under my dash and pointed it at the roof and pressed the button. Mine was the CD and had no alarm, just the immobiliser.
I'll try and find the receipt and find out who did it but I think I passed on all paperwork when I sold the car.
Guy was here for literally 5 minutes, max.
Only works with new keys though.

suspect it will work for all keys ;)
tech2 can't do IR, thats Tech1....
-
May have been a tech 1. Didn't ask.
Just been through all my old receipts. Nothing. Looks like I gave everything away with my old car.
Cannot find the locksmith. Sure it was Bucks Autolocks or Aylesbury Autolocks, something like that. Even Google has failed. Maybe he's gone bust?
I think these people might have put me on to him:
Aylesbury Lock & Security LtdAddress:[ch8206]
18 Queen Street
Aylesbury, Aylesbury Vale, HP20 1
01582 596248
If it wasn't them then it will have been Reese & Jones in Aylesbury. They specialise in fixing auto electronics. Cannot find them online. I'll dig around and see if I can find a business card ...

Whoops. Rees & Allan!
Unit 20,
Park Street Industrial Estate
Aylesbury
HP20 1EB
01296 483586
Very helpful chaps.
As I said, I don't think it is possible to reprogram the old keys. Just the new ones. I got a couple of old ones off eBay and he tried to reprogram them but failed. Only the new one took.
The Vauxhall dealers were useless. Basically the car was so old none of the people there had ever worked on one. Not many '94 and '95 migs left, I guess.
-
Feel for the guy. Here's my old thread trying to solve pretty much the same issue:

Blimey here goes, the ir system can only have a maximum of 5 keys coded to it, so if the keys have been replaced or recoded more than 5 you have to wipe or delete the memory, totally, then you can reprogram your old key plus the new ones!!
its a bit frightening when you see erase all on tech 1 but i just figured what the hell press it :o then it allowed me to reprogram the other 3 keys i had!! before that it just kept saying not possible or unable to accept or something similar!!

Thats the industrial estate near the canal? Was part of Hazel/Watson/Viney back in the 1980s?
-
That's the one. Other side of the canal from HWV (now a Tesco.) You get in opposite the Aquavale swimming pool. They're almost the last unit on the right.
