They can be tight. I find that by removing the CD caddy and carefully inserting my thumb into the CD changer and a couple of fingers into the cassette slot I can feel for the metal chassis and give a firmer pull.
Do make sure the locks either side have been disengaged by the removal tool and avoid pulling on the plastic front panel.

how do i know when the locks are out i just tryed the fingers trick but it was so tight i pulled a bit of the face off [smiley=shocked.gif] but its gone back and still works fine , i'm sure it shouldnt be as hard as this to remove
-
ive give up for today it was just starting to wind me up and i could see something getting broken :-[
-
If you have pulled the fascia off and damaged it (lugs are now broken) would suggest that you now continue to try to remove the unit with the fascia now off.
Put the removal keys in place and then tug on the metal framework to release it -
And yes, it is BLOODY TIGHT !!
-
3 have broke and one is still holding on for dear life and wont break i read on another post there is a simpie repair for these broken lugs . the keys are halfords ones are they ok or should i look to vauxhall
-
this thing just wont budge and i'm worried of breaking it beond repair i just dont know what to try for the best ???
how do i know for certen that the keys are realsing the locks ? 3 of the lugs holding the frond have broken and the volume button now seems a little bent but the face wont come all the way off.

Try moving pins in and out as you pull on radio. You dont seem to have pins in correctly. I used long allen keys in the holes to get mine out.
-
Took me an hour to pull mine out.
I tried with allen keys but couldn't shift it.
With DIN release keys the ends of the prongs engage with the clips on the side of the radio. If you pull the left key to the left and the right key to the right it helps to unlatch the clips from the cage. As mentioned above you can get extra purchase (and lose more skin) by putting your fingers in the cassette slot and thumb in the CD cartridge slot.
Good Luck

Yes I agree, they are a pain.
Fitted one in the estate, then took it out and back in again. It was ok but yes a pain.
I then fitted one in the saloon, it was a right pain to get the single CD unit out. Then put the CCR2006 was a tight fit after swopping the cage. I did try and get it out again......it wouldn't budge so gave up, it stays in ;)

how far should the keys go in ? i've tried all the way in and just in i've had my fingers stuck in the cassette deck . if i was not trying to repair the ccr2006 i'd just pull the bloody front off >:(
-
The keys need to go straight in. If they go in at an angle they can miss the catches. If you push them too far in they can go straight through the catches and jam in between the body of the radio and the radio cage so stopping the radio from moving.
When you get it right you can feel the radio keys engaging with the catches but it only really makes sense once you have the thing out and can see how the catches work :(

arghhhhhh lol

ok its out !!!! and what a pain .... 3 locks were disengaging but the 4 th has come out bent backwards :'( the face ended up coming off :-/ but i'm sure there is a way to re fit that a couple of bits got a little bent too but not too bad i hope so now on with the cd changer repair and hopfully it l go back together and work again else i'm looking for a new head unit :-?
-
is there any way of getting a fixing for the facia again ? as i broke it off , i remember seeing on another post that someone had a repair for this
-
Good effort. I did the same as you but gave up before I broke anything. My unit still hasn't come out and the CD hasn't worked since I got the car.
Your tale might inspire me to have another go though!
-
the cd repair was very simple and very affective :) what we found with the unit not coming out was the botom right lock was not being relised by the keys and we enfed up bendind it completly backwards . i did find that breaking the fasia that the fade botton became bent in th strugge and it took some time to make it stright again
