Title: Reversing sensor problem!!
Post by: Drewomega on 01 April 2010, 13:04:23
Hi all,
After digging the car out of the snow AGAIN  >:( the alarm went off and lasted about 2 minutes whereby it stopped.(Low battery maybe?) I put the car into reverse and the reverse sensor started a continuous tone only stopping when put into another gear obviously. The sensors are clear of snow. any ideas? Thanks

I know that many brands of sensors can be a little "errattic" in the seriously wet/damp/cold conditions.

Is this a problem that is only happening under certain weather conditions?

mine did exactly the same thing following bad weather over christmas. cannot resolve it - all components were checked so it is down to wiring - still doing it now if I reconnect the ecu.

Obviously water in electrics somewhere - VX also could throw no light on this

Hi Dave! This is the first time it has happened. Everything has been fine up until this morning. Thanks

if it is same as mine then you will need to disconnect to stop the noise - unit is on pillar behind spare wheel on mine.

Ah! forgot to mention my outside temp sensor went haywire last week and was playing havoc with my heating/climate control. I disconnected it and checked with a DMM, ok, I then sprayed the plug/socket with WD40 and hey presto it is working perfectly. Sounds like the same damp/water ingress problem as the reversing sensors.

Well! jumped in the car this morning and put the car into reverse. No continuous reverse sensor noise! This and other similar issues must be down to damp/water ingress of connectors etc. Sun has been shining most of the day  8-) I wish other electrical problems were this easy to fix.  :y
