Hi
I wondered if anyone could help please?
I bought a auto dimming rear view mirror, and have found the white/black reversing wire in the passenger footwell, I've ran a cable from this wire up to the light cluster, and then checked its switched 12 volt supply by engaging reverse to check, all is OK.
The wires left on the loom from the mirror, obviously are not all used of course. I know that the white/black wire is for reverse, so thats not a problem solder to my wire from footwell.
Having looked at the wire colour codes, I know I can pick up brown and black from the light cluster, and also grey to grey on the light cluster again.
My problem is that there are 2 x black wires and 2 x grey/black stripe wires on the mirror loom, how many do I connect up? Do I need to use all 4 of these wires, so as to connect to the grey and black on the light cluster?
Has anyone done this mod before?
I notice two rows of wires, and each row duplicates the colours mentioned above 2x black and 2x grey/black stripe?
Can anyone help please?
Cheers
Dean

How to guide here:

Believe its only 1 of the each of the wires need connecting.

The guide is good, but different wire colours?
When you say only one black wire, which 1 of the two, also which one of the grey/black stripe?
Quite confusing, I read somewhere that maybe the 2 rows each cater for different functions? one for motor, one for tint. My problem is which wire is which?
could end up soldering the incorrect black wire, hehe.
Any more takers please?

This is a constant source of confusion.
I have a couple of autodip mirrors here that I am going to stick in the for sale section when I get time. To help the buyers, I was going to label the wires for them.
When I've done this, I shall try to clarify the guide - may be a couple of days though :y

Hi
I sorted it in the end.
you need to concentrate on 4 wires only.
3 connect to light cluster in roof -
Grey/black trace to grey on light
Black to black on light
Brown to brown on light
White/black trace - white/black trace in passenger footwell (needs a wire running down A pillar to marry the wires).
All 4 wires, Pins 8 to 11 (pin 12 blank and not used), dont get confused with pin 7 as this is grey black aswell, choose only the 4 in a row next to the not used pin 12.
Tested with reverse engaged, and courtesy light, and works a treat when you shine a torch into the mirror side when its dark.
Nice mod, pity you can't get it to move like on the memory function on the elite though, unless you want to be a sponge and control it off an electric mirror joystick!

Yeah, I got some diagrams to go up later (as well as mirrors to sell ;D) for fitting autodip mirrors :y
