Title: replacing instrument illumination bulbs
Post by: jerry on 25 April 2010, 22:17:54
hi guys/girls
the illumination bulbs on my instrument panel are going one by one and now I only have the right hand side of the speedo and the fuel guage lit up and the engine temp and rev counter in darkness. Not being too clever with this sort of thing (took me rather a long time and plenty of cursing when I had to remove the dash on the estima!)I wondered if any of you have a link for any step by step guides on it. Ive had a look on here and can find Mr Entwoods query but he's obviously far better at this sort of thing than me   :-[
cheers :y

Have a look in the maintainence guides, am ssure there is one there with a picture of the back of the instruments panel where the bulbs go and a description for its removal.   :y

The only tools you will need are

2 x butter knifes
1 x phillips screwdriver
1 x small flat screwdriver

it's quite diddly getting the dash out, the first time I tried it it took me about 20 mins, now I've got it down to about 5 mins!! Just take your time.. I have the part number for the bulbs from vauxhall somewhere, I will dig them out...

The only things i found awkward were getting the MID display disconnected as its a short cable and the other thing was the little cover behind the steering wheel column, i took my time the first time as i didn't want to break anything but it's more robust than i thought!!

the bulb part numbers through vaux exeter are V0093190471 and are 51p + vat retail so should be the same throught the stealers. I was confused when i got them as they dont come with the seats.. see below..

Good luck!

ok-all done and thanks to all of your help and the maintenance guide/video it all went surprisingly easily( :o ;D). Only downside was that the dealers only had the 3 bulbs and I couldve done with replacing the one that still does work as well. At least I know how to do it now though for when it does go.Once again, many thanks :y

Try looking on fleabay for them aswell, you can normally pick up packs of 10 for about £2ish... I found this out after buying from the stealers!!!

Do you know what type of bulbs are needed ie 501 286 ect and how many of each as I wish to replace them all with led bulbs ( not blue or any other silly colour .) But a brighter white type ?
