Title: Wind screen washer motor?
Post by: jonny2112 on 02 May 2010, 21:37:26
Washer jets not working. Knew the tank wasn't empty, so thought it may be a fuse. Then realised that the same fuse runs the wipers. Checked again while standing outside the car, and I can't hear the washer motor. Anyone any ideas? And can you point me in the direction of where the motor is, in case there's a loose connection or something! Thanks.

The pump is a push fit into the washer bottle. Bottle is right behind the grille & the pump is more or less central to it on the rear & quite accessable. Check the pumpis recieving 12 volts at the connector.

Thanks guys. Had a look this morning, and got to the pump exactly as you said. Not sure I have the means to check the power supply, but there is definately no noise from the pump. Maybe just have to get another one and hope for the best!

How about the other way then, take the pump out of the bottle, shove a pencil in the grommet to save your screen wash  ;), and apply power to the 2 terminals of the pump/motor. Does it spin? It doesn't matter which way you connect your 12 volts while testing.
Mapilns & Machine Mart do an inexpensive multi-meter. You'll always find a use for them  :y

Cheers Andy. I never could think outside the box! Tried that using my booster pack, with no joy, so I guess I need a new pump. Any idea how much for a new one, or anybody got one lying around?

I bought a generic pump off eBay for about £4 or £5 There are two types 1 with 1 outlet for saloons & 1 with 2 for estate/hatchbacks  :y
