Just got a secondhand SC804 for SWMBO's car as someone had fitted a third party cd/radio which had started playing around. The car's still got the Phillips CD012 changer in the boot which it'd be nice to use hence a replacement SC804. Yesterday, changed it over, all worked but it wouldn't switch to CD. In the MID it shows CD IN so the changers registering a CD but radio doesn't do anything when you press the CD button. As we both have Elites (showoff!) I swapped my SC804 into her car and the changer works fine with that. I put her SC804 into my car and it wouldn't conrol the changer again. My changer works fine with my SC804.
Had the front off the suspect SC804 and all the button pads on the rubber membrane seem ok and all the buttons physically move ok.
Is there anything that I'm doing wrong, or is there a setting that needs changing? Is it just FUBARed :(

Check that its exactly the same part number SC804 - there are some variations !!

Good point Dave, I'll have a look. It was supposed to come out of an Omega though, is there more than one CD changer that can work with the SC804's?

Good question - unsure of answer -- sorry !

only the DC012 works with the sc804, there are 3 variations of the sc804, one with display built in, and 2 without (use mid) one of these types does not control a changer.
if its exactly the same as your elite one, then its pssible its a duffer, cheap enough to find now tho, depepnds if you are fussy about all the buttons lighting up aswell tho.
:)

Erm, there are at least 7 different versions of SC804 that cannot control a changer at all, and at least 4 that do. Unsure if there are any variations with anything other than a DC012 changer though.

I don't have any knowledge of your head unit & CD combination but...
If it hasn't been used for a while it might be worth loading & unloading the CD's a few times in case there are some switches with dusty contacts. It is also worth checking that all the connectors are properly connected (& haven't been butchered during the previous install).

The thing is that I've proved the changer works ok as I've had it running using my head unit out of my car so it's got to be a head unit problem. There's a guy on Ebay that's got a SC804 and CD012 changer for £50 with postage but that seems a bit steep for something that's not exactly state of the art :( I'll persevere and see what comes up.

Dave,
Unfortunately the label has deteriorated so bad you can't see the serial number :(
Hannahs Dad, I'll take you up on your offer, what sort of money would you be after?
