Best bet is to remove the scuttle panel and remove the power sounder completely if it's playing up.

Once removed tape up the connector with insulation tape, just in case you decide to fit another one.

Worth checking your Car Insurance policy schedule details as removing the Alarm/Power sounder could affect any future claims for theft/break-in etc  :'(

But less likely for the car to go up in flames due to leaking batteries!

If your that worried about theft of a car that  old, you could fit a new p sounder, £50 ish?

How do you stand if you have bought a 10 year old car and genuinely wouldn't know about a disconnected power sounder unless you have read this thread or you are a member of OOF anyway? There must be some people around the country in that position. :-/ :-/

Remember that Insurance companies will use any reason possible to back out of a claim. They have professional teams of people who spend their time doing nothing else. Sadly, they actually monitor forums such as these and know all the tricks.

Maintenance of your car is up to you, and has been said, a brand new powersounder is around the £50 mark, so no excuses really.

No problems with that - as long as the sounder has an internal battery pack of some description - its a correct and approved fix as far as I can tell

Hi, would you beleive it, my PS has been playing up. I have read some of these posts, am I correct in saying the batteries are at fault. My power sounder seems to come on when it feels like it, even when driving.

I will do the Paper CLip test, will this show it up on that too.

Any help appreciated, thanks

Paper clip and pedal test only read engine ecu, so no.

Ps is fubar, replace. Or unplug short term.

Thanks for that, so replace, no repair, above you stated 50 ish, from DND above, Vaux or 3rd party.

To disconnect, is this the procedure:

1. Turn Ignition On - Off
2. Within 15 seconds disconnect Battery Earth, will this stop PS from going off?
3. Unplug Power Sounder
4. Replace, are these all compatible with each other, no need to match?

thankyou for your help

the fact its going off randomly means the battery acid has attacked the board, ps from vx only. Even the latest cars have ps issues so you wont find one trustable second hand, so new only.

Personally i'd just unplug and bin it.

Also note, if cought early enough it possible to solder in new batterys if the circuit board is undamaged. So may be worthcutting open the old one to double check, but it will be fubar.

There are differant internals on model years, so check with dealer.

There are internal pics in maintenance.

I have just replaced the batteries in my PS with the three leg NiMH batteries mentioned in earlier posts.  A bit of leakage from the old batteries doesn't appear to have affected it.  Although there are two batteries they appear to be connected in series supplying 7.2V onto the PS circuit board

Hi lads aint been around for Yonks
P.S. mine has been going off usually sunrise I saw the one re bonnet switch and disconnected it PS didnt sound off for a couple of weeks then again early morn.
I think I have found the problem on mine mine is a Tourer  and the rear side windows are alarmed two push on electrical connectors on each side the n/s one and the side the sun rises, the claw part of the plug had detached and was still clamped to the circuit terminal on the glass this connector is similar to a 9volt batt connector this connector was tight loose when I checked it the other connector was tight .anyway I disconnected both wires and the alarm has.nt pissed off the neighbours this last couple of mornings  will be calling into Vauxhall for a new bit of loom tomorrow
Another day it aint gone off

Make sure the board is cleaned of any residue before fitting and ideally spray on a conformal coating or a bit of lacquer. When damp gets to it it might start playing up again otherwise. :y
