Post by: belinda on 23 June 2010, 22:04:21

Usual cause is the fan speed controller getting flooded with water from the scuttle and giving up the ghost.

First check the pollen filter compartment, I bet you've got a small pond in there.
There is a drain at the bottom which blocks up, the pollen filter box fills with water which then finds it's way into the cabin killing the fan controller in the progress.
I'm sure one of the breakers on here will be able to supply a replacement but seem to remember it being a bit difficult to get at.
Good luck.

It's an electronic speed controller then, not resistor. Quite expensive. Try one of the breakers on here such as darth loo knee.

I have one, but cannot sell for a couple of weeks

Can't immediately find it - but then thinking about it, a photo would not help you locate it.

Glovebox out. Look at fan. Just on some of the ducting just towards centre of car from fan (couple of inches) is a connector with some large wires going to it (2 from fan motor itself) - this is the speed controller.  Once removed, you will see the large heatsink fins that sit in the ducting.
