hi ive bought an aftermarket new sony headunit, ive installed it,all powers up but no sound, and all wires correct on plugs
are the bose speakers ran through an amp that needs to be triggered?
and where is this amp?
any help appreciated
-
AMP should sit in the boot. At the top, in a tray....unless like in my case, some bugger removed it ?
-
the amp is under the rear shelf on a saloon not sure on the estate

i think you carnt run non bose h/u with bose speaker and vice versa i would take the h/u out and wait for davednd to answer the post :y :y
-
if youve still got the bose amp, and bose speakers....with a Sony Headunit.
Wait for the bang and smoke!

can someone please explain?
ive never heard of speakers that only work with same make of head unit
-
bang and smoke?
from what the amp?
as positive and negative all ok
-
Bose amp and speakers run a 2Ohm impedence. Bose tweaked (via Tech II) head units have suitably lowered outputs to match the Bose amps input requirements.
-
so cant i do away with amp and run speakers from new headunit outputs?
-
Need to change the speakers to 4 ohm as well.... :'(

No your head unit! Bose speakers are 2Ohm, all other 'standard' retail speakers are 4Ohm, these need to be replaced, or it will blow up your H/U.

The problem is the Sony HU gives standard RCA line levels out where the Bose Amp is expecting a wierd (Bose HU speaker level out) input, add as well, that the Sony RCA is an Unbalanced o/p and the Bose Amp is Balanced i/p then all the levels and impedences are up the wall.
Edit, unless you have wired the Sony to drive the speakers (or thinking you have) then the Bose Amps in the way, again wrong levels and impedences.

Have a read through this section, there's loads of info about it.

i really wish id looked into this 1st
but i had never heard of anything like this on any car
i like the sound off the bose speakers aswell,no way id be able to afford to buy bose ones for replacements
should of stuck with fords lol
-
So whats wrong with the original Bose head unit?
-
its a phillips i think, and the cd drawer is jammed, and constantly clicks away, even when listening to the radio,it even does it for a short while after turning car off
and i want to use my ipod instead of cd`s so i bought a new sony one not long out, where its a dedicated ipod unit,no cd etc and the ipod actually goes inside unlike most that plug from front or back
-
Sounds good.
You could probably sell the Bose amp, speakers and loom and buy a set of standard speakers. :y
-
Ive got door speakers here from a non bose one,£5 +p&Pi think thats 8 speakers in total :y :y
