I have a 2.5TD Elite. My other problem is the drivers door is deadlocked. The remote will lock/unlock all the other doors no problem, and pressing the the button again used to deadlock all the doors, close any open windows, and set the alarm. This is no longer happening, now that the drivers door is deadlocked shut. I have put oil into key-hole and can now lock and unlock the rest of the car using the key (as per another post) but despite superhuman efforts to twist the key to breaking point no dice with the driver door. Please help as my wife drives this car, and to say she isn't amused with climbing out the passenger side is understatement similar to Michael Fish and the 'just a bit breezy tonight' quote :-/

Sounds like the drivers door solenoid has failed.
However, if key is a problem, have you ever used a key in that lock before, ie: are you certain that the door lock barrel is original? If not, any other spare keys with the car that you could try?

I was figuring if the key was wrong for the barrel it wouldn't unlock the rest of the car, please don't let it be more complicated than that??? Aargh I have had trouble with electric window not closing on that door a thump makes it work sometimes I am hoping the wiring is iffy is there a common earth for the door electrics, but until I can get the door open I'm stuffed.

am haveing same problem myself open drivers window useing pliers pull up drivers button . open and close with key dont use dead lock . prblem sorted . keep pliers handy .

A door solenoid is cheap and easy enough to replace. Try one of the breakers in the parts for sale/wanted section.

Thanks for the replies. I would cheerfully buy a NEW solenoid. I can't get the door unlocked, it is deadlocked, I ain't going nowhere, unless I climb over the passenger seat (no muddy shoes on the seats please kids) I'm guessing the pliers trick doesn't work if it's deadlocked??
p.s. she comes home at 5.00 and goes food shopping on fridays, no pressure. :o

Have you tried lifting the handle as you unlock with the key. Of all the doors, the driver's door is the only door that has a deadlock that can be unlocked with the key for when the battery is totally flat & the remote fob won't unlock it. It really should open with the key.

When you are out shopping tonight, have a look through the DVD section for "Dukes of Hazzard" as you can then try convince the missus that there is another way of getting in and out of the car

When using the key in the lock the "pin" does not "pop-up" .... so try lifting the handle as you turn the key as Andy Said ... many folks expect the pin to pop and think it is still locked ...

A BIG THANK YOU I have got the door to unlock using the key. I shall be taking the door trim off asap to check the electrics. All is well here in Pembury she has her sense of humour back, finding DaveDND Dukes of Hazzard v. funny.

Glad you got it sorted
Almost certainly going to be the solenoid, but shouldn`t be that expensive to replace - due to this being a very common point of failure, I would probably look to a new one rather than a used one.

Right then, I have a '99 S Elite 2.5 petrol auto estate. The doors have locked using the fob as usual but now the only way I can get into the car is by unlocking the drivers door with the key. The button doesn't come up either and it won't move by trying to manually lift the button. It also doesn't unlock any of the other doors and none of the buttons on the other doors will lift up to unlock them. The tailgate will only open using the key as well.
I have changed the solenoid in the drivers door (£70 from Vauxhall!) but to no avail. I'm all out of idea's, so if anyone has any idea's, I'd be happy to have them. Please just be aware that I suffer with M.E. amongst other things, so I may not be able to reply quickly to any posts and for this I apologise.

How are all the fuses? Thee was a similar post the other day & it was just the fuse for the central locking that'd popped ... fuse 20 - 20Amp
That's the first thing to check. :y

I checked the 20amp fuse as suggested but the fuse is okay and just to make sure I did replace it with a known good fuse, so if anyone has any other idea's I would be grateful to hear them.

Hello I know this an old topic, but having got the door unlocked on the key, the nagging issue of intermittent electric window persisted, and with a frequent loss of sound from the door speaker (hearing aid is switched on). Then one night I noticed the puddle light came on only when the door was fully open (interior light stayed on). Could be the door wiring not the individual components. And yes there's multi-pin connector behind the cover where the loom goes into the door, what a lot of wires. The plug only didn't fall out because it's tight fit against the A pillar. Sprayed it with contact cleaner and covered it in Contralube. Then refitted it and hey presto everything works. much easier than taking off door trims. had a similar problem with mine found to be the wires attached to the left hand boot hinge had a break in them and touching each other causing them so short out
